How do you tighten the top cap bit on the shockers?

There's a couple of holes in it, does it need an SST?

The originals are octagon shaped but these are circular. Do these need to be tightened up? How did u lot do it?

Cheers,

I used 2 allen keys, just shoved them in the holes then kept pulling them round till the circular nut was tight enough for the shock not to move around.

Theres bound to be a specific tool for it, why they didn't include one is beyond me.

So they can make more £££ selling them separately

A slot in the adjuster?

No it's the cap for the actual strut that holds it into the sleeve i'm on about.

Got the top adjuster, white knob thing?

used the same, a set of stilsons on the diameter ., 24 inch, although 12 is better so you dont overtorque. they will mark slightly but it aint nothin to worry about.

I took one of those peg spanners used to change angle-grinder disks and modified it to fit. Oh and then I welded a three foot handle on the end to make sure they could be tightened adequately.

Aha, so do i need to remove the top mounts from the car and fit them to the shockers off the car?

schaumi
03-10-2007, 22:18
no.. it will also work in the car... (it will actually be easier to loosen the nut in the middle when they are still mounted in the car)
but the springs are much easier to compress outside of the car!

OlberJ
03-10-2007, 22:34
The springs i've got are slightly shorter than standard so seem to go on fine without compressing them.

Did you use the spacers ontop of the mounts, the ones that go under the top nut on the standard shocks?

schaumi
03-10-2007, 22:40
puh....
i dont know...
it was july when i made this conversion lol
but if they fit i'm sure i used them!

Tis alright, av got a fair sized set here, had to get them to get the old caps off. Just worried about ruining the new ones but if everybody else is doing it...
