Hey up chaps... how do you wire up the ST185 charge cooler pump?

a) Do you just run it off a 12v feed so that it is permanently on with ignition, or permenently on with engine on?

b) Does it have stepped power outputs on the 185 pump, or do I just give it a straight 12v...?

also, where have you guys (those who installed them) put the pump... i've seen one of you has it in the frunk, which is where i'm likely to mount mine (just under the battery tray)

I was going to put it on a switch, but I think that's pretty dangerous as i'm bound to either leave it on after stopping the car, or leave it off when driving...

Thanks people

Any idea what sort of current the thing pulls?

I'd be tempted to relay it in with an ignition feed (so the relay activates with 12v ignition feed).

On my GZE conversion, the AE101 GZE doesn't use separate +12V supplies for the igniter and the injectors, so I'm using the feed from the Inj relay to power the chargecooler pump. It runs all the time the ignition switch is in the 'run' position.

My pump is at the base of the engine bay firewall to minimise the distance it has to suck water from the cc core, hence minimising the chances of cavitation.

I can draw test it later mate, but i'd guess it sucks quite a bit being a juicy motor...

I don't want to be fusing things by running it off the wrong source, but I don't want to get into having to run it straight from the battery and running relays off my dash either!!

What's cavitation mate?

Great article - you see this one too http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pistol_shrimp

Why not put the pump in the bay then?

defo use a relay as the pump is rated at something like 15AMP. Works darned well I have to say. Mine is mounted down in the front wing but to get to it you need to remove the bumper, I'd recommend fitting the pump at the bottom of the engine bay

Put the pump for my st205 chargecooler under the battery tray which i kept in the original mark 1 position, works fine. A friend did all my wiring but got mine running from a pressure switch which cuts in at 3 psi of boost and also a dash mounted switch if your wanting to start the pump before serious driving, also got a low fluid buzzer fitted as well, the chargecooler already has it fitted just needs wiring up correctly, need all the help you can get to keep tabs on all the fluid levels, especially when your running it for the first times.

Great advice guys... I saw the low fluid switch, but removed it and replaced with a temperature probe instead so I can see what the temps are like... it looked relatively simple to wire up the fluid level as you just lost continuity between the two wires coming off when it was low...

Would you say it's better to have the pump nearer the rad, or nearer the core then?
