Hi all, Getting ready for Newcastle, I feel I'm gonna get messed up and probably violated by Johnny.

Anyway, I've been out in the mk1.6 a few times lately and on cold start up the revs are hunting between 1rpm and 2.5rpm. Once the car starts to warm up it levels off but there is still some hunting movement when stationary.

Any ideas on how to sort this and why its doing it anyway?

Michael.

Sounds like the infamous air in the coolant system.

Have you tried bleeding it?

I'd leave it for a couple of months and just let the rust eat through it...

hahaha ;)

yeah Paul, only in the last 3/4 days I reckon. Any ideas? As I said it smooths out a bit once the cars warm but is pretty erratic on start up.

Could be an air lock?

yeah i'd fill and bleed the coolant being careful to try and meter how much coolant is going in - if none goes in then you'll know it's another issue such as a sensor conflict that's causing the hunting.

def check it doesnt need bleeding as the lads say... then take it from there.

My mk1 did this after no probs for ages, it turned out to be an early warning sign of my radiator expiring!!, i would give it a check before you bleed it again just to make sure theres no holes.
