well mr shugs has waited an awful long time for this to happen but finally we have made a start on bodykitting his 1.5 that was completed many months ago.
First we assessed the cars condition, mostly exterior arch rot but a few little nasties lurking underneath, all to be taken care of of course.
This car is getting a eurosport kit, which i dont believe has been documented before although megatron built one not so long ago....
Shes a bit dull and tired looking....
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/07/233.jpg
Some rear arch rot...
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/07/234.jpg
And some sill triangle rot...
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/07/235.jpg
theres also a few nasties on the lower door posts as per usual but in general the floor and chassis on this car are sound....once its welded up and the euro kit goes on it will look mint.
Heres one arch chopped out, this will be sealed up ready for the euro arch to go over the top

Loads more to come.....
Oooh been looking forward to this, was talking to Shugs about it on Saturday. The Eurosport does look really good and used to get alot more attention than the SC. Will look cool as when done.

Look forward to seeing this Shuggy - will pop over one day when she's back up and done :)
What colour you going for?!
Oh man! It's goin' tae be mega watching this transformation!:jump: :jump: :jump: She's lookin really sorry for herself now after sitting for nearly two years in total (mostly out the back of my old flat) but, if the way the engine turned out it is anything to go by, then she's in for a treat.
Aye Colin, stop bye any time squire, you never know, I might need a hand with the lights

this will all get seam sealed up and is now solid, these areas are covered by bodykit so dont need to be cosmetically perfect, just solid.
More rot on the drivers side rear....

I helped carry those bad boys in when they arrived at Jiffs and was wishing i could just put them in the back of the camry and no one would notice! have them in 18" in white on my silycar and rekon they is an awesoem wheel for sure!
They look sweet as hell on me big cousin's V6 Clio, really fill the arches well.

been a while since an update, dean has been up to his arse in welding, theres a lot more rot on this car than we realised,so cutting it all out and making a solid job of it is very important....if we skimp now it cant be done after the kit goes on....
here is the door post area welded....
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/08/80.jpg
and more welding to the rear sill...

Proper job Paul!!!   I suppose these Mk1's of ours can be a real unknown quantity on the rust front until you realy dig in and seak it out. Having said that, it fills me with confidence to see that my wee 2 is getting such thorough treatment. She will out last many a soon to be rusty Mk2 when the Wizards of Woodsport are finished working their magic. :praise2:

here is what we do to welded areas that are going to be covered up with bodykit, this is fibral and its watertight...so we coat the welds with this and then seam seal over the top of the fibral to 100% gauarantee no moisture will get back through...
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/08/104.jpg
Also on the lip folded and welded wheel arch, more fibral....
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/08/105.jpg
Remember we dont care what these areas look like, they are under the kit and only need to be solid and watertight.
Great stuff Paul... fibral and seam sealer, I like it! You can never go far wrong with the "belt & braces" approach.

more tinworm im afraid, this time bottom of front door post.... so it was off with the doors.
Shugs i noticed the door hinges on the drivers door are fucked (thats the technical term by the way) theres loads of play in them,im going to try and drill them out and fit fatter pins to refurb them instead of trying to find good 2nd hand ones mate.

well more rot....
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/08/139.jpg
all very common areas of course....but pointless letting them hide behind filler!
The bottom of this wing was completely missing so its had a new fabricated section and fibralled over etc...no need for cosmetic detail under the kit, just get rid of rot and give it strength!
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/08/140.jpg
Now the first bit of kit can go on,starting with the door pod sections....

and also the sideskirt section....

well you may have been wondering how works been progressing with shugstas car, well im afraid it hasnt.... our painter dean has been off sick for the last month and we dont know when hes returning.
So we couldnt let this project just sit there,so today i went in and did a full saturday morning on her....i managed to fit the rest of the bodykit to the car,so the front valence, arches, sideskirts, door pods and rear valence are now all bonded to the car....

Over the coming weeks myself and anth shall be flattening her down, filling and priming the shell in preparation for its respray....progress will be slow as we try to fit this around our day to day mechanical work, but we will get there!
looking good..shame about dean though..hope hes okay..
does remind me does anyone have a rear eurosport valence knocking around, i did buy one ages ago but it got lost somewhere in the TB crew..
i had just the front valence nik, not sure who had rear!?. top work paul, nemind!.. on with the job, you guys must be balls out right now..
Not sure either, I got the spoiler (from Al) & the arches (from Al again as Dan didn't want them). I think Paul got the side skirts.

nik im pretty sure that eurosport rear valence is kicking around here somewhere....i remember seeing it and thinking who the hell owns that? must be yours mate.
Hope dean is okay. I wish your master-painter (close to masturbater but not quite) a speedy recovery.
That's an amaizing amount of work done in the time you had to do it yesterday Paul. The extra effort that you're putting in to make progress on the car is very much appreciated mate. All the best to Dean, I hope he gets well soon.
I think all this extra effort maybe deserving of a pie or 2 ehh shugs

time to resurrect this thread, well as hugh knows we got dumped in at the shitty end with deans departure from woodsport,to be honest his workmanship left a lot to be desired when compared to how we usually turn work out,so it was for the best.
Anyhow! onwards and upwards! anth has been beavering away on the bodykit and has spent a full week blending and fitting up.....
Here is the OSR arch blended in and high build primer....
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/11/161.jpg
And applying a guide coat of high build to the side pod join, theres lots more work to do here so frequent coats of high build show up any errors in the blend....
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/11/162.jpg
And the whole skirt with 4+1 high build.....hes also cut out the sideskirt vent too....
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/11/163.jpg
And the first blend going into the OSF arch....
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/11/164.jpg
Anth is on with this full time now,the end result will be stunning and worth the wait...lots more to come.
superb work there anth keep it coming

more work from today.... anth noticed the door pod section didnt line up very well with the skirt,a bad flaw in the master moulds we reckon as i had the same problem on my car....so hes built it out to the correct height....
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/11/174.jpg
And moving to the front of the car we found the front bumper skin had more ripples and bellies on it than johnny.... so the whole thing has been skimmed,it previously had the eyebrows blended into it anyway.....
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/11/175.jpg
Anth also found a belly in the door just above the kit,so this too needs levelling....
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/11/176.jpg
And again in the rear arch a slight dip in the arch moulding which needed attention...
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/11/177.jpg
After that the whole side has been high build primered once again.....
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/11/178.jpg
and the blends on the arches are now very good...
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/11/179.jpg
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/11/180.jpg
still lots to do but attention to detail is key no matter how long it takes, you cant rush bodywork when a top result is the goal.

If that car had been ready for the Do, it would have been the only thing on this planet that could have kept me sober over the weekend lol
It's remaining Black Johnny, removing the pinstriping and stuff, pretty much declutered. The plan is to replace the indicators with clear ones and then dark tint them as much as is legaly possible and do the same with the JDM rear lights that are being fitted too. Will be gettin Fimmo to tint the glass dark as legaly possible as well when she comes home to sunny Scotland.

back to business.... layering on coats of high build primer is all very well and yes it helps get the imperfections out but it doesnt show you the bellies and lumps in the fibreglass or other panels...so today anth gave the kit on the drivers side a deep coat of gloss black...
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/11/195.jpg
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/11/196.jpg
The gloss shows up every dip and rise in the kit that we couldnt see in the high build primer.... so now we will flat this down to reveal the valleys in it and go at it again with skims of filler and more high build until its perfectly flat. The arch blends themselves are perfect and need no further work.
Also anth made the front spoiler a custom fit onto the bumper.... we dont want to blend here as it would crack as soon as shugs hit 40mph! so its left as a very close touching fit which is achieved by building up the fibreglass to meet the bumper....
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/11/197.jpg
Had a quick look today over Pauls today and the cars taking shape mate. Anths doing a cracking job on her.
Saw this on my phone earlier today but had to go straight from the office in Edinburgh through to Glasgow and that's me just got back East and home to a big screen to see this in detail...the wait was torture but well worth it. It's comin' on a treat Anth  Seeing part of the kit in glossy black has given me a real insight into how it's going to look once finished and I've got to say I'm gettin' the butterflies real bad at the thought of it.

Hey guys, not been on for a while and thought I'd see how things are going. That's going to be a real nice looking car at the end... but these kits are a total pain in the backside :-(
How banana shaped where the door mouldings? ;-)
Out of interest how is the new front valance being attached to the bumper? We used coarse screws up through the top of the valance and into the bottom of the bumper in holes that were filled with fibreglass to secure them, then grp and sikaflex in the panel line between the valance and bottom edge of the bumper.
It's the best looking kit, IMO (but them I am biased!), it just needs a hell of a lot of work to get it right.
Paul Woods
30-11-2007, 18:18
hey john how the hell are you mate! good to see you still hanging around TB.
Yep the door pods are boomerang shaped,as is every other part of the kit,no need to tell you though! but we will get there, just a ton of work to get right.
We have sikaflexed and screwed the front on,there are also support brackets going on the bottom too,but we arent blending into the bumper just leaving a very fine gap so nothing can crack.
Hows the porker? (the car that is,not the old man lol)
Shugsta, this is gonna look outstanding in black. Are you keeping it all the same colour or going for the different coloured lettering/highlights (lol) on there?

anth is really flying along now,the passenger side has been 90% blended and a glossy guidecoat applied to see how close it is.....
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/12/87.jpg
A lot of care is being taken to get the kit blended in perfectly to the front spoiler...
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/12/88.jpg
And the front bumper skin was flattened out, this too has been painted to find out how close it is.....pretty damn good, not a ripple in sight, not often johnny can say that naked...
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/12/89.jpg
Also you can see the cut outs anth has made for the exhaust tips, these arent normally on the kit...

All coming together nicely now.
loving the two tone work there ... looking great.
Don't make this another Mk1 I like! :P
that gdarn front bumper is a toughie to fit!, i can only imagine the work taking to fit the whole kit, hats off to anth, hopes hes not clucking yet lol soooperb work, eurosport has some amazing lines
Realy movin' on at a stonkin' pace there fellas...top job . Did the passenger side door panel need as much work as the driver's side?
I see Anth has also started to cut out the old rear "grill" area in prep for inlaying the mesh, that'll make a big difference too.
What do you reckon Paul... it's difficult to make out from the photos but do the exhaust tips stick too far out from the rear of the car?
Oh aye...I'll need to get my finger out and order the clear front & side indicator lenses and front arb bushes.
Thanks a million for the all the hard work you've both done so far. :)

shugs, anth has played about with the panel fit best he could, and its pretty good at the moment...it all looks to be lining up correctly and hes made sure the kit has a good fit around the doors, thats the important area.
The exhaust tips come out flush with the rear bumper from memory so they look about right,i can alter that later on if you like though.
It's all sounding groovy Paul, was just wondering if the Eurosport kit was consitent in it's banana shapedness lol Flush to the rear bumper is how I thought the exhaust was from when I popped into Woodsport a wee while back, but wasn't sure. That sounds good to me then

Aye Olie, as Paul says it's been a while due to a number of issues but the main thing is it's getting very close to completing. Everyone involved has done a fantastic job despite the trials and tribs dropped in our way. The most important thing to me was (and is) that Woodsport carry out the work and I'm so very glad that that's the case.

poor anth has been ill like everyone else has over xmas, and only just came back on wednesday despite still feeling like crap, what a hero.
He's been pottering about doing little jobs to shugs car while hes on the mend, this included sorting out the black trims on the car.... so hes masked them up and after rubbing them down they got primed...
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/01/113.jpg
And later on gave them several coats of satin black....
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/01/114.jpg
Got to say it totally transforms the car having the trims refurbed.
Anth should be back to full speed next week and we can finally get this car completed.

Looking forward to seeing the covers come off on this one. Had I realized what a pain bodywork was before starting mine, my car would have definately taken a trip up to woodsport.
Decided I dont like the rear arches on mine (major tyre rubbing) and they are coming off. Now wheres that grinder of mine?

Front brakes (ST205)
Rear Brakes (Corrado/Tubby)
Wheel Spacers???
Rebuild interior
Fit Bucket Seats
MOT
Shakedown
I think that's it :hmm:
Och an afternoon's work then. Good stuff.
Which ARB you getting Shugs? Mk2 thicker jobby or a custom one, whiteline or the likes?
Rev2 Tubby fitted using these...

Here's the EBC I got http://www.performance-trends.com/boost_controllers.htm A bit of an unknown quantity but what I have read about it seems to say it does the job well.
Seems decent that. I like the switchable output on it
Plan is to control WI with one of the outputs. Oh aye... got this for £140 delivered.
That's a decent idea - or you could always use the voltage output from the MAP sensor?
What WI kit have you got? IIRC most work off their own pressure switch?
Got the Aquamist that was fitted to the SC. Paul thinks it could be fucked so poss need to get another one. Hmmm...If that's the case, would probably be better getting a charge cooler first. :hmm:
100% agree on the CC mate. It's a phenomenal upgrade.
You can wind the boost up to 15psi and have blistering, repeatable performance.
If I ever got another MR2 Turbo, the first three mods on my list are
1) Exhaust and decat
2) Boost Controller
3) ST185/205 Chargecooler

cheers chaps, shugs we are waiting for a few crucial parts to arrive before it can go for an MOT,i tapped out the front hubs for the st205 calipers with a M14x1.25 tap, then tried to get four bolts to fit that thread size.... ive been everywhere! old engineering firms that had toothless guys working there all their lives went "ooooh 14x1.25!" like id just spoken some mystical forbidden words that was going to summon the god of CNC and kill us all!! Quite simply put those bolts dont exist despite me having a tap for that thread that does exist....figure that one out.
I did a bit of digging and a new mini wheel stud is 14x1.25,so i went to the BMW dealer and ordered 4....i will need to make proper bolts out of those when they arrive....all good fun!

yes twenty minute job shugs. am at work tonight but will let you know the name of tint tom, just mask off the bits you dont want tinting ie reverse lights ect then just apply coat after coat till you get the desired shade, personally i tried to match lenses to the black of the origanl plastic surround to create the effect of it all being one unit plus i think it will look even better on a dark car like yours.
