Thats a 1GR-FE you are thinking of, we have them in the hilux over here. They should be exactly the same as a 2GR (a more popular engine) 3.5lt V6 that is in an Aurion, you guess probably have then in the camry. We only have 4cyl in the camry now.

You would be more likly to find a swap with a 2GR in it than a 1GR because of the popularity of the engine however from what I can tell the 1GR has the same bore but a longer stroke so... could it be the same block?

that 1GR makes quite a lot of torque, hardly surprising i guess, considering it seems to mainly come in landcruisers! :shades:

1GR-FE on ebay right now, but I don't think the $3k buy it now + shipping is worth the cost.

yeah, but what transmission would you mount it to?

Hmm.... notice that one version of the Hilux (late 80's) used the 3vz v6. It might be worth having a look around and seeing if anyone's transplanted a 4.0 into one of those and see if they had to do any mods to the transmission housing to mate the two up.

If the 4.0 will hook up to the tranny from the earlier 3.0 hilux with the 3vz, then (in theory) the 4.0 should bolt to any transmission that can take a 3vz. Like a tubby 'box ;)

From what I've read there are alot of diffrences between the 3vz-fe and 3vz-e. The things they share is a very, very small list.

i believe the 3VZ-E is the single cam 12 valve version? I've heard it's a very poor engine by Toyota standards.
