View Full Version : Adam's bodywork thread

Paul Woods
27-06-2007, 07:23
We thought it might be cool to show the bodywork side of things up here as well,so heres mr H's 1.5 getting the WS treatment.

We found a bit of a belly in the rear quarter panel above the wheelarch, probably caused by welding distortion or other, but it needed to be put right....

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/06/163.jpg

Although ad was happy with the wheel arches we agreed the outer lips could do with straightening up and reforming so the outer edge is nice and uniform...

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/06/164.jpg

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/06/165.jpg

Also there was no gap between bumper skin and bonnet so we adjusted this with a big hammer and a block of wood, now it has a perfect gap...

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/06/166.jpg

And the engine lid needed sanding down/refilling/sanding down etc.....

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/06/167.jpg

Theres a few more days prep left and then it goes into primer and paint.

Mr Woods, you got to do MORE threads like this!

Could watch bodyworks guys work all day, it truely is an art form.

Decided on the colour scheme yet Adam?

biteme
27-06-2007, 08:39
I think it should be hearing aid beige with a hint of manchester grey :)

Agree with Jiffy here though Woodsy - bodywork threads are all pukka, especially as you'll be doing a colour change for me soon!! :)

yeah Jiff, I agree. great to see how these things are done....It really is an art form.

As above but also you get to see the amount of prep that needs doing - its not just chucking paint on it.

What colour is it going to be??????????

I'd love to but it's a sim in Miss Owen's work laptop and we've no idea what the account details are... Will look into it upon return to the UK though.

Over 18? altogether far too close to double that now, tis depressing really. If I don't finish a MK1.5 in the next few months they'll probably get taken away by the geriatric police and replaced with MK2's...

Hi-jac over (sorry Adam),

Owen.

a little update... the filler work is now completed....

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/06/171.jpg

and its now all masked up ready for its high build primer coat...

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/06/173.jpg

so by tomorrow it will be all primered up in one colour, then flattened off again ready for the respray.

rosey, all depends how much needs doing, welding, dismantling etc but a rough price guide is around £1500 for a mirror flat professional repaint... and includes paint/materials.On cars that need panels fitting and arches welding in the cost goes up.

Booking wise theres about a 2-3 month wait at the moment as dean has quite a bit of bodykit work to get through.

There should be some pretty cool pics posted here tonight if all goes as planned.

Oh how right you are my friend and oh how I cant wait to find out what mr photographer drives, personally I bet he drives a huge jag to make up for his obvious lack of cock and balls in his little frilly g string he wears, and to quote Mr Hobbes that happens to ryhme with Knobs which is defo what he is:

gob smacked  you naughty old boy :D i remember a brief talk of a smidge of colour in the paint a long time ago. i get to drive it for 7 hours solid aswell which is going to be an awesome trip back, lets hope the weather holds out this time. what can i say, the attention to detail is off the scale, the preperation is 110%, the paint looks perfectly 'just so', the guys a legend.

Well bugger me, it's a blue car with gold wheels, methinks you'd better park with all the others on the scooby stand at JAE :hidesbehi

Only joking, that is a work of art, credit to all involved.

Hint of Pearl? Exceptional, we like that a lot here! (Also for a bussiness sense it means you have to take it back to woodsport for any touch ups as only they know the secret formula! Maybe the pearl is provided by including ground up hobnobs in the mix?)

How about a red bumper and some stickers to finish it off? :hidesbehi

All the best chaps,

Owen.

The world tour has left Milton Keynes; Adam H was looking somewhat dazed, so we fed him choccy hobnobs and coffee before sending him on his way back to Brighton. He probably won't remember today at all - it'll all be some pleasant dream he had!

Stunning car and absolute credit to all involved. Paul, you'll be pleased to know he even cleaned the dead flies off the front before setting off so they didn't set in the paint!

Trouble is paul,If Dave does eventually get the kit finished and takes the moulds. It will be an excellent fit so whoever buys a kit of him will have minimal work to do.

The trouble is Dave is taking far to long to sort it,but once he does finish things compared to other suppliers his stuff is top class in quality and fit.And believe me I ain't stickin up for him as I've had enough and are going to get my car back in the week in a state worse than I took it,and kit less as it is on johnny's car,and that was over 8 months ago.

Believe me mate, its a good job I ain't like my brothers otherwise Dave would be in a lot of trouble and pain!

Wow that is some unbeiliveable work. how did you craft the the fender flares? also is that the stock bumper just leveled off and smoothed out?

Paul Woods
27-08-2007, 15:55
well i gave these flares to adam from my project car,i made them out of sheet steel and sliced angle section for the arch lip,so that gave the basic shape but full credit must go to adam for the painstaking filler work that gives the final finished profile.

adamh
27-08-2007, 22:13
the bumper there maritime, front valenece?, is eurosport which is at the sides blended into the flares. I took the whole front end off under the mr2 bumper as it was rotten. if using an aftermarket item as such, there is no point in having rotten metal / any metal for that matter underneath, off with the whole lot  , its reinforced with alluminium sheet left to right and that is also bolted onto the front lower crossmember under the rad, there are some notes here..

here (http://forums.twobrutal.com/showthread.php?t=3527&page=23)

Wow nice work, your car is pure sex now and i can see why. but eurosport? do you have a link for it im still alittle confused is this a factory made part for mk1's?

Marksman
28-08-2007, 16:51
The Eurosport kit is an aftermarket body kit of front and rear bumpers / valences, wheel arches and side skirts. Adam chose to use just the front nose section from the kit.

Here are some picks of the complete kit on megatron's car clicky (http://forums.twobrutal.com/vbpicgallery.php?do=view&g=53)

Hope that helps,

Owen.
