my torque mount has buggered itself up so i have stripped it all down and replaced with the polyeurathane mix from rs. the question is what size and how many holes do i drill into it to make it a little bit less solid than it is at the moment? cheers guys!!

it measures 76mm or 3" in old money:wink: the centre metal section is 20mm across but the centre piece is wider in the middle than it is at the ends. maybe 25/28mm in the middle. cant measure it coz its embedded in goo! and this stuff certainly sets hard!!

I was going to do 3 x 6mm holes in a triangle Al

Is this the new thing to do then gents.. drill a few holes in poly-urethaned mounts? Might have to follow suit!!

This kind of fits in with this thread CLICKY (http://forums.twobrutal.com/showthread.php?t=8352) since I'm trying to stiffen the mounts but minimise vibration

Lodge I left mine solid. It is fairly rigid stuff, as you say, so I reckon to reduce the stiffness of the mount you will need to remove quite a lot but then you risk it failing by cracking. The original rubber probably works in shear judging by the position of the gaps in the original mounts but the poly filla from RS may be designed to work in tension/compression which may need the holes in different places. I reckon without someone doing some torque/deflection tests with different hole configurations we are definitely in trial and error territory. Just whack it back on and see how it feels!

just for info - the powerflex bushes i got have 3 holes in a triangle, probable 5 or 6mm size holes

okey dokey then! cheers guys. i will put it on and run it as is, and then drill in a triangle pattern if that is too solid!

the aftermarket poly inserts you can buy normally have 3 x 6mm holes drilled but they seem a softer shore than the RS poly mix, trial and error lodge!
