after a short break from crazy swap projects im starting to get itchy fingers so ive decided to collect for 2 mk1 v6 swaps, one being a sc chasis.
now would the sc gearbox and shafts be ok for the v6? and if so will the gearbox need to be disturbed?

Off the top of my head I'd say the SC gearbox wouldn't do as it has the 4a dimensions. MK2 NA box and unequal shafts is the easiest way to go but the MK2 turbo (E153) is much stronger and allows the use of the supported shaft and then two equal length shafts. Also needs replacement outer CV's (£80) so this is the more expensive route. Easier to find LSD equipped boxes though...

Hope that helps,

Owen.

can you swap the center casting of the sc tranny w/ the mk2t tranny? i remember them both being E series

i believe you can oteck but ive never seen it done,no reason why the SC box couldnt have a Mk2T bellhousing bolted to it,although what you would essentially end up with is a mk2T gearbox so there wouldnt be much point.

Mart your easiest route is to use a mk2NA box and shafts as owen says

IIRC the SC's E51 box has the same internals as the Rev1 Tubby's E153, but has a different casing entirely.

thanks guys, i knew id heard something about the rev1 and sc gearboxes being similar. well i think ill take both routes as ive just sourced a rev 1 box, so just need to get a n/a box now (should be easy enough).
im sure this has been discussed but i just want to make certain ive got it right,
mk2 n/a gearbox with mk2 n/a drive shafts and cv's.
mk2 turbo rev 1 gearbox with gt4 driveshafts and toyota picnic cv's, or is it turbo shafts???

with the turbo box and you have the st185 celica shafts then you wont need different cv,s if you use the turbo shafts then you will need the cv,s changed and some machining is needed on the support bracket. that is the partsinabox joint everyone talks about. if you use the n/a shafts and box no need to change anything.

from what i've read if you use the sc center you can save yourself the problem of building mounts and just build the passenger side

mart if you use a turbo box theres two driveshaft options...

1/ use turbo shafts, with partsinabox CV joints and the turbo supported output shaft that will need the bearing relocating 4mm towards the diff

2/ use gt4 front shafts,no CV's to change but you will need to use the camry V6 supported shaft with those but the bearing doesnt need moving with that.
