Paul Woods
01-05-2007, 20:06
Next up on the WS production line is steves mk2,in for a v6,what else!
His car is also in for paintwork among other things so excuse the primer on the sides. Also steves car has the woefully inadequate 3s-fe fitted....really toyota what you playing at!!!
Heres the old bay....
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/05/10.jpg
Not long after that we hauled it out,it didnt come quietly im afraid, two siezed tie rods refused to budge and had to be cut out,so turbo ones will replace these, heres the empty bay....
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/05/11.jpg
Shortly after that the gearbox was removed, its all a bit manky, needs a damn good clean!
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/05/12.jpg
next the V6 was loaded onto the stand for strippage....
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/05/13.jpg
And then stripped!

I have to say the internals on this engine are superb.
So this ones in for the works. You're right about that 3SFE.

Loving the look of this one. Just one question though, i thought the S/C was going on, or is that at a later date?

today saw the cam covers done....
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/05/30.jpg
Hmm.. sorry for butting in'/highjacking, but are those the normal rocker cover bolts on there? Mine uses allen key head jobies, where as those look like standard (hex head?) type bolts? Possibly why mine worked loose as its a lot harder to get the allen key ones tight. :(
Paul Woods
04-05-2007, 18:54
erm they should all have standard hex heads i think ian.
Paul Woods
04-05-2007, 19:38
todays update was sponsored by hobnobs...
quite a lot of detailing got done, most of the engine is built now,its a bit painstaking all this cleaning and painting....we now have a nice shot blast cabinet that speeds things up a bit....
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/05/43.jpg
You can see the extra attention to detail around the ACIS... every nut n bolt done...
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/05/44.jpg
New timing belt is fitted too, flying along.

....Or buy a fake one off ebay for 20 quid! same for coolant cap too.
whats the difference on paying 58 to a cheap one lol
msherry21
07-05-2007, 21:16
I don't think theres any difference. as long as the coolant cap holds 1.3 bar of pressure.
paul
i must admit the red looks awesome
I do like the red - and it pains me to say that.
Royal blue is the way forward though!!
whats the difference on paying 58 to a cheap one lol
The difference with the cheapies becomes evident in a few months, you have a shiney oil filler cap with a space where a sticker used to sit.;)
i will jus buy 2 then lol
whats happened 2day then paul next instalment pls
Paul Woods
08-05-2007, 19:26

And with a snap of the fingers and a severe lack of pictures later...
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/05/80.jpg
I think thats what you call "in"
Connecting shit up to follow....
top work paul - snap of the fingers - so that's your secret to getting them done so quickly - Paul Daniels style ehh
I do like the red - and it pains me to say that.
Royal blue is the way forward though!!
Hmmm though brown was your fav colour mate??
Was over today had the pleasure of seeing the engine ensconsed in the car. As ever never fails to impress me with your workmanship mate and your attention to detail.

Matt
Paul Woods
10-05-2007, 19:46
things are progressing but not a lot you'd want to see pics of,its had its water plumbing done, fuel lines and bits n bobs.
In other news i spotted a split inner CV boot,so i had to order a new one and fit that before refitting the driveshafts...bloody expensive those inner boots! £24 for a bloody NA CV boot!
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/05/100.jpg
Tomorrow sees it wired up and maybe even the exhaust fitted.
wow paul
thanks for the update brill job as always m8
hi paul
sorry about the boot did not realise it had split and creating the extra work
Paul Woods
11-05-2007, 07:45
its no problemo matey, there was no way i was going to rebuild it with a split boot, its only delayed things by a day so not too bad.
cheers m8
good job as always any idea when it will be finished aprox
Paul, how do you get the gearboxes so clean? Do you just use degreaser and powerwash it or is there any special way for it?? If want to get it clean enough for speaypaint it takes me hours to clean...
Portgordon
11-05-2007, 12:38

Portgordon
12-05-2007, 11:30
Excellent, glad to see someone getting the conversion done with a blueflame on. I'm very interested to hear how it sounds with the v6 pumping through it :)
hi port
i am sure it will be fine maybe a bit more throaty than the magnex or anything i have heard we will just have to wait for paul to turn the key so we can all hear
can you get the sound put on my thread when you start it up well after you have phoned me ist paul lol
keep up the good work paul the people in west midlands club carnt wait to see it when its done
ta m8 as always
paul
did you have 2 change the fuel pump in the tank?
splintermcinnes
12-05-2007, 17:24
shouldnt need to mate, the N/A fuel pump will support the V6. its only when going for forced induction you will need an up grade.
the turbo pump will be ok to run forced induction on the v6.
HTH
Matt
splintermcinnes
13-05-2007, 03:02
well if your only running the N/A V6, which from your thread is what i think your doing then your fuel pump will be fine.
but should you have any plans for future work, ie, adding an S/C. then you will need to upgrade, but for now no you wont!
cheers
Matt

good work paul. wouldn't mind hearing it without the exhaust! i ran my old fiesta without the manifold on and it was well loud. the V6 must sound insane without the exhaust!
Did you get a video camera sorted?
Matt
Paul Woods
14-05-2007, 20:19
hi matt, hopefully have a camera sorted by the middle of this week.
steves afm and filter fitted, engine bays a bit dusty! i'll be cleaning it all off though...

Final exhaust fitting today,we spent ages cleaning it up,it was covered in layers of road cack or something!
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/05/151.jpg
And once we got it this shiney it was a crime to hide it behind the rear grill,so we chopped that off.....with steves permission of course!
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/05/152.jpg
Just a few odds n ends to tidy on this car and its finished.
msherry21
15-05-2007, 19:30
Lovin' the chrome!
Yup mate you do right to loose that rear grill. Looking good!
Portgordon
15-05-2007, 20:31
I've always preferred to keep the grill in place....having said that though, it's not like it's going to protect the exhaust from anything! And that is a fine example right there....more so for being a blueflame!! ;)
:D :D
good move wit the rear grille
:) lookin' good :)
that exhaust look awesome  Still cant decide wich one to take myself...really want to hear the new downgraded skytune..
wow paul
that looks brill m8 as always even better when i heard it awesome and it looks brill without the grille

Paul Woods
17-05-2007, 18:22
hi steve im doing your brakes tomorrow, ive spent today doing all the little tidying up jobs on your car, setting ignition timing etc....ive fitted a polyurethane front mount to your car, first time ive used one and although it was a bastard to fit its very good....
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/05/153.jpg
And finally the finished engine bay....
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/05/154.jpg
mmm..tasty stuff paul..
glad you got the brace in too..looks miles better than the 'x your heart' one..!
msherry21
17-05-2007, 18:30
Paul, I'm sure you just have a very rare collection of mr2's that came straight from the Toyota factory with V6's as standard...and then you just sell them off to us mere mortals.
That looks mint!
Could do with some haed n shoulders lol
Looks awesome as always boss
Portgordon
17-05-2007, 19:05
MMMMmmmmm Yeah! The red looks great :)
The strut brace looks good, can see it must have been a tight squeeze :)
loadswine
17-05-2007, 20:21
Outstanding stuff again. Love the red! That whole installation looks as though it was designed to be in that engine bay.
Humbling to see that sort of workmanship. Superb!
hi paul
thats brill m8 it looks like it should have been in there 5 ages and yes the red looks gr8
a good choicei think
cheers as always m8
what difference does that poly mount make
Paul i se you managed to get the bush in the mount - any trimming?
Hey Paul, is that floor paint I can see ?
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2007/05/153.jpg
thats pauls front room aint it lol
Paul Woods
18-05-2007, 06:30
yeah a bit of floor paint! just doing one area at a time.
Hasad those bushes were a total biatch! i chamfered the leading edge of the bush and oiled it up,still had a fight getting it in,they dont like being in there thats for sure!
Steve the poly bush is fitted because the NA's have a piss weak front torque mount, usually i fit a turbo one but i thought id try a poly one after hasad posted it up,it will mean less engine movement when you accelerate hard.
Cheers for the good feedback on the conversions guys, makes it all worthwhile.
accelerate hard me i wear a cloth cap and only come out to play on a sunday morning and drive 5 miles an hour lol
so me no drive fast hahahahha
carnt wait till next thursday
oops paul
the mounting looks brill am sure they will be no movement at all in that engine
cheers as always
steve
Paul I was reading about fitting these powerflex bushes and apparently in some instances there is a metal sleeve that needs to be removed from the mount prior to fitting the new bush - I'm not taking mine back out to check though.
looking amazing there Paul. That's just the nuts!
Paul Woods
18-05-2007, 17:51
cheers fartpants!
yeah i know hasad,im not bloody taking it back out either but im pretty sure that metal insert is on the turbos only
i dont want you taking it out either ifs its good for my engine its staying in lol
so what you done today then m8
cheers steve

hard luck here we go
was at work till 2 this morning then up at 6.30 taxit at 7.30 then train at 10
i arrive at durham and paul picks me up in his supposrt mpv lol then we glide threw the streets of durham(paul hijacts the ride to drop off for some fuel ie theres a song WHO ATE ALL THE PIES and paul and his fellow workers ate all the pies)
i arrived at paul via the bake bean shop as he needed to fill the support car up with gas hahahha was it funny not
saw my car all clean and tidy wow then paul started it up and fuck me did it sound good he told me what he had done in detail showed me the body work that had been done and the pain job was brill would recopmmend dean anytime aswell
paul took me for a drive and what a drive it was totally different from my 3sfe in everyway
so off i went on my journey home, stopped for some fuel for me and my car then pulled off the service station and bang my tyre went at bout 3-30 and it was nothing to do with pauls work it was just one of those things
even then paul helped me find a tyre place with the near enuff size and off i went with pauls words in my ear dont flog it keep below 70
f**k never mind i will just have to wait the blueflame exhaust sounds brill on car
oohh by the way dropped off at the chip shop on the way home got back in the car and started it up and the people jumped who were in the line at the chip shop and i had a very big smile on my face
all i gotta say iss thanks paul, anth and dean for a job very well done

You should have returned the favour and replied with a shrug of the shoulders too... then you should have got Rampage Jackson on her ass (would have said gotten Chuck on her ass... but *sniff* he is champ no-more :(...)
well i have booked a day off today so going for a run down the m5 least it aint raining today lol so see how well it goes
i am sure as every day goes by my exhaust and engine sounds better as i get used to it more, i am driving around still with a big smile on my face. as i sit in traffic i carnt help tickling the thhrottle and see everyones face turn with the sound
and when i start it up everytime its just the feel of the torque and power thats the best and off course it works its bet at 80 and above as it really opens up
and i still admit the best exhaust to put on these v6 is the blueflame for sound and performance maybe i am wrong but i only have my opi nion as mine was the ist to have a blueflame on
thanks paul and the team for doing such a good job as always

lol im the best baby and dont you forget it ......< chubby brown on> zip, feckin lobbbb...
well thought everything was going ok with my car till wednesday and i was sat in the car park at work with the engine burbling away and turned off then walked out the front of the car, and saw a steady trickle of water and i thought what the fuck.So i took the cover off bove the radiator and sure enuff it was coming from the top fins of the radiator, it was rusted away, according to the receipts with the car it was changed 3 years ago as if. so i got some rad weld poured it in it worked till i could take it to the garage sat.
Went to the garage on sat morning got 20 yards b4 the garage and theres a large speed ramp there went very carefuly and did not notice anything and whne i got out the car at the garage i noticed a lot of steam and water coming out and looked underneath and the hose at the bottom had come off as i must have caught it on the speed ramp but everythings done and it works fine
Paul Woods
12-08-2007, 09:13
ah steve not radweld mate!! horrible stuff!!! blocks thermostats, heater matrix channels and radiator channels...that stuff should be banned! i wouldnt use radweld under ANY circumstances mate.
when he had it at the garage paul he cleaned everything out gave it a good flush out including the heater as when the water came out it was all brown so the radiator was putting shit in the water so i made sure he cleaned it all out ist before fitting the radiator as he had it out in the ist place and it made it easiar for him to clean out
Paul Woods
12-08-2007, 09:27
thats ok mate but radweld is a total bitch to remove from a cooling system, its job is to block holes....think about it,horrible horrible gear, please never use it again, just for me mate :)
Portgordon
12-08-2007, 11:10
I almost went out and bought some rad weld :eek2:
My Radiator is a skanky rusty old piece of kit and it's started drooling every now and again (understandable given the sound of the engine - I drool every time too!).
My cooling system was in a bad state before my engine conversion with rust coloured gunk all throughout, so the clean that it got may have dislodged some nasty gunk which was actually acting as a clot. Which is why I was worried about radweld - worried that it would actually block my cooling system and restrict it!
I had look into the expansion tank pipes last weekend and they were filthy! I'd never looked at them before properly, but if you extract the pipe from the expanion tank there's a little plastic filter - this and half of the tubing was actually clogged with the ole' gunk (which I'm wondering if it is lying in the bottom of the expansion tank and being sucked through). So I've cleaned them out and am keeping an eye on them.
I think a new radiator is in order though for good measure  I wanted a new radiator anyway even before I knew it was leaking as it looks awful being all rusty like that!
I'm going to go out today and try to work out where I'm leaking from as it's not a steady trickle like you've said you have, mine is more intermittent.
Do you get "performance" radiators? i.e. smaller, lighter, more efficient? :driving:
Portgordon
12-08-2007, 11:27
Yeah I'm glad I didn't purchase any now! :smack:
I've heard rhumours that pouring an egg into the radiator will have a similar but more temporary effect of plugging leaks..
been for a run in it and it comes up 2 temp no problem and the heater works fint with the water opipe of the bottom of the engine and the radiator out he said it ran clear from 2 places
