has anyone tried a Quaife quick rack and is it worth the £83.00 and time to fit?

I'd fit one if I could get if for that price :) Would be great fun on a tight track (or twisty road).

I wonder what the minimum order would have to be to get a discount?:hmm:

will be hard work every day though. once youre moving its fine, but if you need to get into a tight parking space youre gonna give your arms a good workout!

id be interested in one if anyone fancies setting up a group buy though :)

Is this to shorten the stearing wheel turn? If so i`m interested too:)

There was a group buy set up on IMOC a while ago but although lots of people were interested it just never happened. Don't know why.

yup, reduces the numbr of steering wheel rotations required to get the wheels from lock to lock. in turn it increases steering sensitivity, and reduces the leverage of the steering wheel (smaller pinion gear diameter, less torque) meaning more effort to keep the car straight, and more effort to turn the car at low speeds. but its soooo worth it :D

There was a group buy set up on IMOC a while ago but although lots of people were interested it just never happened. Don't know why.
same reason as all group buys go this way. for every 5 people who show an interest, only 1 is likely to follow through on it. i tried to organise a WoN nitrous oxide package group buy, it basically offered any option people wanted all at huge discount through a friend who knows the guys at WoN quite well. got the required 10 people plus a couple extra on top, and then when it came time to pay about 7 dropped out. people are time wasters

if there is lots of interest and nobody else is up for it then id look into doing a group buy. would have to see what kind of numbers quaife want in order to offer discount (if they even will). but if i do it then (or if someone else does, then this is a suggestion), get people to pay up front as soon as they show interest. then if the deal falls through refund them. that way people cant pull out, otherwise i guarantee that unless you get 20-30 people, you wont get 10+ paying up at the end lol

Have just spoken to quaife on another matter and mentioned this, there is the possiblity of some discount but not huge and would need to be reasonable numbers to get it!

Jim-SR
20-02-2007, 13:23
theyre only £89 to start with, so il probs get one either way lol. if we can get some kind of discount then it a bonus :)

why dont we get a list together then and see how quick it builds up then we can get a good idea of numbers:

i mailed Quaife and got a reply saying 10+ orders 5% discount. The £4.49 will go towards postage i guess. At the end of the day £89 aint a great deal of money is it.

i'm in for one but would like to order in the next 2 weeks.

i have asked if they would be posting to one uk address or to 10+ addresses.

i guess it may be worthwile seeing if they can be picked up from Quaife.

i wonder what the trade price on these would be?

Jim-SR
20-02-2007, 18:38
anyone got any friends working in top racing teams that use quaife as a supplier? that would be handy, we could use their trade discount then lol. if its a big enough team we could probably get a huge discount :D

ive got contacts at Xtrac, but somehow i dont think one of their rivals would have them down as a supplier :(

We need Mk2's on this :(

Jim-SR
21-02-2007, 11:56
do mk2's use the same steering rack? or maybe we could even get Quaife to do a deal with the 2 combined if they are different. would probably double the numbers

Well, I think I'd be in for one if they are prepared to do that. Gives paddy woods another job to do :)

Or better idea, you get an mk1?

I need to make sure i have money for this before i write myself down for sure. But i really want one!!! Will this be a pain to install?

steering rack looks quite easy to get at from under the car, guess it depends how many bolts are seized!

They are a breeze to take out. You will spend more time taking the wheels off.

Split the two track road end ball joints and then its four bolts underneath and two inside the footwell to lift the UJ up and out it comes from the side with a little bit of turning.

but remember, of those 8, probably only 3 or 4 will actually come through at the end. if we get more its a bonus, but someone ALWAYS pulls out, even if their intentions are good :( even if we can just get a postage discount or something though its a bonus

Could well be interested in one, depends when we're actually buying them.

Took the new 2 out on Saturday and the steering was a bit soft to say the least. Needs new bushes and the rest of the steering looked at. Might aswell fit one of these quaife jobs while it's all in pieces.

looking at the measly discount Quaife will give and the fact they will only post to one uk address it looks like the GB i was looking to do wont pay off and it will work out the same cost to buy direct from Quaife.

Jim-SR

that sucks, what were their terms exactly?

also anyone know how much they charge to ship one?

I think that they should reward GBs because they save a lot of work as it`s been done here and they do seel a certain amout at once.

Can`t we just send them all to Adamh, then he can work it out?

Depends on what you use it for really doesn`t it? I mean this is perfect for track but maby not as good for road use. I will be using it for racing on track and sometimes for a joyride so for me it`s perfect.
