ive just purchased the whole kit including springs from my local chav store. can anyone tell me what the clearance over 17's will be like when fitted. also what is the ride quality like? i dont want to fit it just to find out im gonna have spinal compression and shattered teeth lol.:freak3:

not sure on the ride quality as yet have not run kit, all i can say is the yellow cone type things are most odd! but will probably make good door stops, i dont think anyones found a use for them yet so dont worry if you dont find a use for them. possibly a bump stop for aggressive track use if not using the normal shocker main shaft covers.. i.e; you cant use the shocker shaft covers and the bump stop together on the rears because they interfere with eachother.

now i cant wait for it to arrive!............these cone things sound intriguing! i take it you have a set then adz?

the dude also mentioned about purchasing bump stops? aint these included then?

plus koni source the springs from someone else as they dont make them.....strange

The springs come in various makes, some are Apex which are supposed to be great, I got some no name red ones, still to find out what they handle like. I have the yellow things too, just ditched them in a pile in the garage with a load of other stuff which I have no idea about!

Mine came with the Apex springs - car is still an engineless shell so can't comment on how they feel yetrotflmao

BTW the yellow bump stops included in the kit - IIRC they are Powerflex ones and can fetch a few £ on ebay if you keep the original ones:thumbsup:

as mart said, two are included in the kit. you dont really need them for road use, nobody has so far. my springs were apex and they were yellow.. but you know colours dont really mean gospel they could be any maker, the springs will come in a seperate box with the makers name on them, for instance mine had apex decals printed all over it. john (megatron) tried them out says they are fine, thats good enough for me. koni just ship them with the order.

btw.. mine took 6 frikin months to arrive. good luck lol

I have Koni on two cars and i love them. Stiff as hell but that`s how i like it. Oh and you can adjust them to softer, don`t know why but you can:thumbsup:

Is that a thumbs up for the kit then, cost about £370?

I take it you could buy the kit then swap the springs if you wanted?

msherry21
14-01-2007, 12:36
Thats right OlberJ you can. I got mine from awesomeGTI.co.uk I think it was for under 370.

cheers,

Michael.

What you reckon you'd get for the springs if you sold them?

Think this would be much cheaper than buying 4 struts and seperate springs. Could maybe recouperate most of the cost of custom springs?

msherry21

you might not need to sell them, chances are the springs will be totally fine for road and track use.

why would you want to swap the springs anyway? and swap them for what?, the originals?

sport kit comes with lowering springs! some dont want the drop just the setup of the koni,s. i bought some springs for the v6 that when fitted were completely squashed, no travel at all!!

anyway lodge......ive been waiting for you to reply to this thread so i can pick ya brains on clearance issues.....youve got 17's right?

apologies lodge i understand now.....so its possible to keep the original springs then?

lodgeman
14-01-2007, 17:51
yes you can use your own springs, the setup will stiffen the suspension all round but most go for around a 30mm drop with no worries. all depends on what you want to go for ultimately! i run 16's on the v6 with no issues.adamh runs 17's with the konis as do several other guys. just make sure you have the correct type as they are different 1a to 1b

adamh

lodge your good eye needs testing ;) .. i run 16's fella.. gary sysmons has 17's i think and konis, have a yabber with him... the aspect ratio of your tyre should stay overall rolling radius is whats important. theres a tyre size calc stickied in the off topic which is a good help for a cross reference to the origonal RR

AlunJ
14-01-2007, 20:36
Heh, that pic looks just like my front springs after fitting the Apex springs (shocking pieces of crap that they are) that came with the Koni sports kit. If you're going to fit them, be prepared to take them back out shortly and drop the originals back in.

adamh

it must be down to luck of the draw alun, i have apex fitted and they are stiff as concrete, they dont move, for sure. this is what i mean about a tad unorganised.
