Need some advice, is it possible to retro fit power steering on a mk2?

I have a rev1 with no power steering and was just wondering if it's worth getting fitted once the V6 goes in?

Cheers guys :)

its almost impossible mate, well when i say that what i mean is its such a ballache that you'd be unlikely to find anyone willing to take that on....its a mammoth task! not just the power rack or the pump but its the control system, you'd need to fit the PS speed sensor in the column, which probably means the whole column, and the full forward harness from a PS model....its an 11 out of 10 spanner rating job!

I am in the process of collecting the partd to put Power steering into my Rev1 as a bit of a project/something to do....

Be aware it's no small task.

You will need :-

Power steering rack
fluid resevoir
pump
Ecu
relay
All hoses

Then you need to get a new piece of floor plan for the frunk for the pump to mount in which means cutting and welding.

There are 12 wire that go the th ECU these will have to be tapped into the cars looms.

I have got hold of and entire Rev2 turbo loom to go in....

This has some plus sides,

As I have had a rev2 turbo put in and wired to the passenger foot well I now get the rest of the turbo loom.

I will then have the advantage of the wiring to add my folding mirrors.

Still wanna do it?????????

Varnish your front wheels - that'll do it.

interesting... im actually looking at going the opposite direction myself and removing the power steering, the only thing holding me back at this stage is tracking down the parts (manual steer sw20s are very rare over here as are manual windows which i also would like)

Can you not just reduce the pump speed on the electric pump to simulate non power steering?

good idea goldy,or indeed disconnect its power supply completely? the large relay in the front will do for that.

Mk2 PS doesnt go all heavy and unsteerable like other cars with PS,dont ask me why it just doesnt! feels like a manual rack to me when they arent working although i do believe the ratios are slightly different.

Maybe because there's no weight over the front wheels? It's not like many other cars in that respect :)

plus if it were too heavy all the girls would complain about lack driveability when parking up at tescos/salon/retirement home (delete as applicable)..
