After scouring the US Boards, it's come to attention that you can use hi-power alternators from any of the xMZ-FE series on the 3VZ-FE - the good news about that is they are available from 80A right up to 170A

Ideal for those of us with heavier duty sound systems! (try 1100W on for size!)

Only question I have is if I chose a 170A alternator, would it cause any damage to the car? I've had the car re-wired for my ICE install and I've got a heavy duty Optima battery. :)

The alternator will only be as good as the wiring between it and the battery.

make sure thats uprated and you'll be laughing.

Now i know why you're needing all that power for your engine Johnny. lol

Have you had the car weighed at all? I'm not being cheeky, jus wondered how much of a difference these things make.

I've not had a chance to get it weighed mate - am too scared lol.

The car is quite basic in terms of "out-of-the-factory-spec" i.e. no abs, no t/c no motorised mirrors etc, so it's a lighter than a GT Spec MR2 but it's got 8 speakers and a sub in it now, plus 2 amps. I'd say at a guess it was the same as a GT Spec +- 20kg :)

In fairness, 50kg is pretty light for a bloke!

A bigger alt will draw more power from the engine. IIRC, somthing around 800 watts RMS is 1 bhp. That alternator is 2448 watts RMS under full load, so your looking at about 3bhp.

What I will say, however, is that a 110A alternator should run your system at full whack and the car fine. Your system will only draw around 80A of current (1100watts/14volts). 170A is overkill.

The 50kg was for his lardy arse, not his total weight lol
