Hi people.

I'm getting a TRD Widebody kit fitted to my '2 - the car goes in next week!! I've got a set of Tein Coilovers (SuperStreet Dampers) with EDFC.

Can you tell me what the best wheel width and offsets are for the car so I can get the correct sized wheels.

I'm looking at a set of RUFF ones the sizes are:
18 x 8.5J +20 front
18 x 9.5J +20 rear

Will these fit ok?

hi johnny
Just curious how your car can be going in next week when mine ay sorted yet and the moulds are coming of mine??

By the way the wheels need to be in the minus offset to fit if you dont want spacers.I temp fitted some volks 9jx17rear 35 0ffset and they would need 45mm spacers.

tried 17x8j 35 offset for front and they would need 15mm spacers

best bet to ask dave to get the tape out and check some measurment from my enkeis.

Ahh that explains it then.Dave PM'D me earlier and said he was cracking on with my car. due to having one booked in for early feb(must be yours).
Oh and when i took them measurments the wheels were right to the edge of the arch.

This is also assuming dave hasn't needed to widen them etc to look right. So best to get measurment.

yea, no worries - my cars getting a full respray as well, so might be prepping and painting mine first and stripping off the MRD skirts, lip and rear panels before he does the kit :)

Dammit, my mate Neil was up today with his genuine TRD and i forgot to get the wheel details!
I know its got 245/40's on the back with a lip so big i was using the wheel as a step to get access to the engine bay!

lol I was looking at maybe 265/35/18 on the back :) and 235/35 on the front. Depends on the offsets though.

265?!? Fook me!

Need to be able to put some power down ...

Found them.
Front: 17 x 7" +13 offset 215/40/17
Rear : 17 x 8.5 + 7 offset 245/40/17

So, if I was planning on 18" wheels, I'd need
Front: 18 x 7" +13 offset 215/35/18
Rear: 18 x 8.5" +7 offset 245/35/18

Now this is where I struggle. How do I go from 7" front to 8.5" front and alter the offset so it's the same? The same for the rear, I want a 9.5" rear wheels, so thats another to look it. I'll hunt around and if I find the answer I'll post them up.

Does this help, its a little excel spreadsheet i created to compare two tyre sizes.

I have 215/35/18 up front. I don't think you will get any bigger than that on the front mate, it'll hit the bottom of your shocks. On the back I have 255/35/18.

I can get bigger if i lower the offset. If I run a 10-12 offset I can run 235 :)

Running coilovers means I have more clearnance :)

There's a lot more room in there now!

I don't mind your front tire size but could you get 255/40 or 45's on the back. Or 19" :D

What coil overs are you running johnny?

Just a word of warning johnny(i might be wrong as u got teins). When i had my coilcovers fitted(cusco).I could fit any height combo IE 19's 20's etc as the wheel was the side of the coil unlike std were it is underneath hence preventing fitment of big alloys.

If yours is the same u might not be-able to fit as wide a rim as u want on the front due to the spring taking up some of the room. But u can go hhhuge on th back no probs.

The TRD isn't much wider than STD 15-20mm at the front.Just looks it cuz of the squared off arches. So whatever u can squeeze under your arches now, just add 15-20mm to find out max size then you can start adding/subtracting against the wheels on my car to find out the offset u need.

I've been sent pics of a car that has 18x8.5 - Front and 18x9.5 - Rear, both +20 and they appear to be ok.

That's it for me :)

With them sizes bud your gonna be right on the edge or even slightly out at the front but about 20mm inside of back arch(well on the kit which is on my car anyway).

What if I went 10" at the back?

What if I went 10" at the back?

Then you would cause the earth to counter rotate on it's axis.

Cool, if he got it to spin backwards fast enough would we be able to time travel :)

What if I went 10" at the back?
REAR WHEELS ONLY
Basically what your doing is adding 12mm/0.5inch to the total witdh of the wheel,so if keeping the same offset+20the wheel would be 6mmfurther towards the strut and 6mm closer to the arch.Hence instead of 20mm in you would be 14mm.To get rid of the 14mm just subtract from the 20mm offset making it +6 offset.

Baring in mind i did not check how close it was to the strut as it was not touching so didn,t take measurements,so to counter this take out the 6mm on the strut side IE:-6 of the +6 offset= 0 offset if you use 10j.

Ok ,after writing the above I did some calculations based on my wheels when trial fitted.

I used 9j with +35 and this was based on the rim to arch(no tyre overhang considered)

9j with +35 =45 away from arch

So 10j with extra 1inch/25mm=12mm on each side of wheel
So now 45mm gap is 33mm,but you want the other 12mm on outside aswell.
so this changes the offset from +35 to +23 but still leaving a gap of 33mm.
so +23 offset-33mm = -10 offset with 10J
I have read that original TRD with 10J ran -12,so my kit can't be far off.

Please note Johnny these are calculations with my wheels and only a kit temp fitted.

I would strongly recomend Going to my car, checking my wheels against kit, checking my wheel sizes etc so can do proper measurements.

Ther would be nothing worse than getting some wheels for a car like this then finding out they don't fit the way you want.It would also be hard to get rid of them again probably aswell.

Even thou I checked the wheels b4 car went I will be double checking again b4 I proceed any further as a safety measure.

HTH but do not take it as gospel as this is all new to me(working out wheel sizes)
Someone please butt in if I have not worked it out right.

regards
sie

Cheers for that mate.

I've been heavily browsing the US Boards, and several people are running 18x10 +20, but only with coilovers. Apparently, they will foul with stock springs.

The rear wheels will "tuck" by 3-4mm - that's fine with me. Thanks for the help though dude.

I might get 2mm spacers if needs must, as I'm already looking at getting the hub lugs extended!

No probs bud. That sounds about right as the lip is about 15mm(15+4=19).I said about 20mm in.
