A few pics of my IC install so far. I have decided to bring air up through the boot floor, through the IC and out the back. I am using 3 motorbike fans (still need to buy the third). Even with only 2 the airflow is pretty impressive.

Very nice work. So the air is getting in from underneath, and let through the holes in the back? How do the fans set up, suck or blow?

The fans sit on top of the IC and suck the air through.

Nope, just mild steel. Will need painting and plenty of sealant.

paint no stik to mastik gary it bounces off! most odd reaction im sure your aware off, prolly works paint first then seal after. i'll be interested to know what you use as i can use same stuff round my front indicators :) ..

I bought a tin of seam sealant when I did my rear firewall, horrible stuff to apply but it can be painted once applied and it has hardened a bit. Got it from Halfrauds I think. hopefully it will do the job

great, i got some of that nasty stuff but it has a good kick :) . how are you wiring the fans to operate?

Will be hard wired, i.e. always on. Although I may fit a dash switch, maybe even 3 individual switches. Have been scouting ebay for another suitable fan and there are plenty on there so should be back on the road soon.

Nice looking work.

Have you left a gap between the fans and the intercooler or are they flush?

I say this because the area in front of the hub of the fan is a dead area for air movement. Generally add a gap of the distance of the depth of the fan to smooth out the air passage so that air will be getting sucked through the entire area of the i/c in front of the fan.

Just a nerdy tip from the extreme pc cooling freaks that overclock their pc's to breakneck speeds ie ME. :)

Yep, nice big gap between fan and IC. also when I add the third fan I will be dividing the gap into 3 sections so the fans dont fight each other. Just hope it all works when it is finished.

Good man. I`m a bit worried to make a big setup in the boot because of weight. I guess it`s not that much but do know the weight distribution now? %back % front?

Now i`m thinking in addition to the 3s engine, box etc ofcourse. not just the shroud:)

Gary Symons

Well the inlet ducting under the car is alumuinium and weighs nothing. The box in the boot is steel and tbh is pretty heavy but no more heavy than a boot full of shopping. No room for shopping now so problem solved.lol

Dont forget that the battery has moved to the front boot which has to help a little bit. If it all works will find out soon

i jsut thought of one possible problem, looking at where the ducts are, if you go hard on the brakes, do you think youd get a heap of hot air up the ducts? i dunno if it would be enough to make a difference, i presume the turbulence would blow the hot air all around under there. but id be interested to put some thermometers in the ducts and see what happens when braking, if it were my car.

Well its either air from the engine/exhaust or air from the brake area, this should be the coolest. Dont think it will be a problem.

I'm glad I've seen this post, as I've just bought what looks like the same intercooler and I have exactly the same plans re fitment.. I've got 2 big pacet fans as well

Hows it running with the long piping? That is my only concern...

Cheers
