Howdy folks.

Right, just to keep the site informed I've decided to create a POCMUC thread. Partly to keep you lot informed of progress but mostly to try and make Paul cry in frustration when he can't work out the acronym. :gay:

Paff is my partner for the purposes of POCMUC-ery.

Just to start you off:-

(0) It's MR2 related, and is within the spirit of TB.
(1) It's not been done before (we believe).
(2) We'll be throwing it away when it's finished.
(3) We need some rear strut brace rings, but not for an engine jig, or a strut brace come to think of it.

Hopfully weather willing we will publish our creation in a weeks time, so you've got that long to work it out Paul.

Enjoy,

Owen & Paff.

Howdy Paul.

Well you've got one word right, but that's it I'm afraid. If you lose a thumb whilst thinking about this and not what you're grinding Becky will kill me!

Tonight sees lots of boring preparation with an aim to total pocmucisation on Sunday evening.

Tick, tock, tick tock, tick tock.

Oy you 'orrible lot, this is not a piece of crap this is not to be laughed at. (Did you believe that? Of course it's to be bloody laughed at, but it's not Piece or Crap, but Of is correct.) Anyway Paff and I had a good prep session for the eventual POCMUC-age, so we're still on track. I just need to stop changing the design and actually build it  I like all the wrong guesses, just give more ideas for future projects...

Keep going guys, so far all you've got is one "Of" and the temporary use of a few castors...

Skimmed past this post first time round as it wasn't the right answer, but Paul that's a pretty damn good idea :praise2: Especially for people doing a lot of chassis work in a tight space, or who'd like to powdercoat the suspension parts but don't want the car on axle stands. I wonder how strong the struts and castors would have to be? Stronger than my wooden effort would be nice  Hmm, more mullage required.

Would anyone with connections to the man upstairs please put in a request for a South Wales heatwave over the next few evenings? Oh and if it could stay light until midnight and rain tea every half hour or so that'd be appreciated too

Cheers all,

Right - a bit of knowledge pooling to crack this riddle...

Why is the weather so important to this project?
It crops up in most of O & P's posts as halting progress - is something non waterproof being used? Is the entire thing non-waterproof?

Preparation seems important - so it's like you're building up to something?
Every psot so far has been about preparing for something - as if you're going to pull some ropes and it will come to life...

You mentioned changing the design - so it's possibly an art based project by the sound of it - not a useful car item such as a mcdonalds hamburger turbocharger (4lbs per square inch consumed)...

Is disposable and can be laughed at??

Requires special equipment to hire?
My guess would be an engine hoist... what else could it be?

Fairly rare mk1 piece?
Lost totally... any ideas

Key ingredient from Baldric for swap..?
Has to be the 4A-GE... plus that ties up with the need to hire a hoist...

...but you say it's not the obvious bit - so that leaves perhaps another part from the engine bay which needs a hoist - gearbox perhaps...

or maybe you're just tossing a few random things in the mix...

Bah... tell us :(

jasper
13-12-2006, 00:23
He's dying to tell us so pretend you're not interested and he'll spill the beans...

Paff

4age, hahahahahahahaha, if it was that I wouldn't have spent Monday with owen stripping the bugger out. Altho who knows it or even part of it may still be used :) Or I may be lying there, oh and also the one that was in there was probably buggered anyway so may have required a swap.

Oh and as for weather halting progress, has anyone actually seen what rain has fallen lately, its hard work working outside in that, can't use no electricity, gets you cold and pissed off and most importantly..........

waters down beer.

And the rare part, think its a pack of mint hobnobs, cos even I havn't seen any yet and I'm sure they were originally supplied with the mk1 :)

Oh and disposable it may be, depends what happens between now and xmas I spose...........

And no we are not building santa's sleigh

well at least at the mo.

Oh and just to mention, we don't actually need to hire a hoist to lift a 4a as owen already has one suitable for that sort of purpose

Oh and Owen, sod the raining tea I just want your local barmaid to deliver me beer every 30 mins :) She can even stay around and watch if she wants, needs to be the bikini clad photographer tho..

Right anyone else got any ideas cos I almost confused myself on that one

(1) One more word:- Up

(2) So we have P. Of C. M. Up C.
The other letters are accefknooooprrt :hmm:

(3) Baldric was a 4agZe BTW, this matters... :poke2:

(4) Waterproof? Well if it wern't to be thrown away then making it so would be the most expensive part of the project. :banghead:

(5) Yup have an engine hoist so no need to hire. The kit I'm renting is coming from HSS though...

Any guesses? :tease:

Howdy folks.

Well there's good news and bad news.

The good news is we've spent the weekend on POCMUC and things are looking good. Good enough that we're not going to throw it away straight off, but are going to carry it on to a second prototype. That means that the bad news is that we're not gonna tell you lot what it is until we've finished the next one. Sorry

Just about all you need to work it out is in the previous posts.

(1) Well within the TB ethos.
(2) Critical part is off the shelf. (Well if you have a shelf of AW11SC bits it is anyway.)
(3) Loads of preparation, and then the real work starts.
(4) Not been done before.

Hope that helps,

Team POCMUC.

its been discussed many times though owen..maybe its only since TB has opened up poeples imagination and 'daring do' that brutalising a mk1 is now an acceptable option..that and the fact you pick one up for a few quid nowadays...

Repositioning the intercooler? Fitting a chargecooler? Done before ...

Hmm ...

Requires a Mk1 and a requires a 4agze. Relatively straightforward but not been done before.

John
19-12-2006, 14:17
After a spot of caffeine fueled brainstorming, I’ve come up with some ideas:

A high boost supercharger with a dash-controlled wastegate to reduce the pressure when you don't want it.

A diff lock – seems a bit pointless though.

And my preferred choice which seems to fit the bill –
A dry sump ...

Paff
19-12-2006, 14:21
nope :)

John, how have you come to the conclusions you have, especially the fact of using a 4agze, tis intriguing me a little. Altho not enough to tell you the answer :) altho I can tell you, you still havn't got it yet :)

John
19-12-2006, 14:25
Well the supercharger one's got an obvious connection.
The diff lock only becaue the SC comes with an LSD gearbox.
The dry sump - well the sc engine is incidental but if you're going to all that trouble, may as well be a powerful engine. An n/a would be less able to corner fast enough to need it, perhaps.

Humph, I'll need more coffee :hyper:

Sponge Bob
19-12-2006, 14:33
Are you doing one of those really silly humongous great big ram air scoop things you get on American muscle cars... where you can see the butterfly valves opening on the charger at the front... etc etc

Does this project involve something poking out the top of the engine bay... i'm thinking it does...

1...2...3...

I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK
I sleep all night and I work all day.

Chorus:
He's a lumberjack and he's OK
He sleeps all night and he works all day.

I cut down trees, I eat my lunch
I go to the lavatory.
On Wednesdays I go shopping and have buttered scones for tea

Mounties:
He cut down trees, he eat his lunch
He goes to the lavatory.
On Wednesdays he go shopping and has buttered scones for tea.

Chorus:
He's a lumberjack and he's OK
He sleeps all night and he works all day.

I cut down trees, I skip and jump
I like to press wild flowers.
I put on women's clothing and hang around in bars.

Mounties:
He cuts down trees, he skips and jumps
He likes to press wild flowers.
He puts on women's clothing and hangs around in bars?!

Chorus:
He's a lumberjack and he's OK
He sleeps all night and he works all day.

I cut down trees, I wear high heels
Suspenders and a bra.
I wish I'd been a girlie, just like my dear papa!!

Mounties:
He cuts down trees, he wears high heels?!
Suspenders...and a bra?!...

Just the Lumberjack:

ah! is this completely removing a mk1 floor/chassis just leaving the outer skin and mounting the whole lot on a spacey type frame with castors on it so you can place whatever engine/drivetrain inside it as a mock up?

Yeah. TBH I'm gutted, I'd hoped to have a reasonable product out of this and maybe a shot at an ASBO too, but ho-hum, there's always next year. I'll be concentrating on getting Ivor and Baldric finished and will then probably have 6 months off and then take another crack at it after that.

Sorry lads,
