brakes and suspension

:hyper: :hyper: hi to all you brute owners, and fellow celts, i own a 1987 mk 1 in good condition , very quick in my estimation but not as quick as my elan, thinking about improving it with new brakes and suspension, maybe an engine upgrade later, read the links about the suspension, but nothing yet on brakes, thinking of drilled and grooved type, any local help would be appreciated, some work i could do myself, but would be nice to see already upgraded cars.

check out the brake list in the downloads section; Plenty of upgrades availble.

Standard brakes are pretty good when they're in proper working order (not seized up and fresh brake fluid in).

I'm going with the ST185 fronts and Woodsport Bigbrake rears (but I'm also flinging a 3vz-fe in the back!)

Hi frodo and welcome :welcome: . I plan on the same brake route as Jiff (st185's and Woodsport).
Not planning on an engine conversion quite yet myself (though watching Lodgemans V6 build with increasing interest).
Sure there will be a Welsh meet soon now the weather has broken (and Welly has finished his 1.5) keep your eyes peeled.

Which Elan did you have? A baby Elan, a +2 or an M100 ??

The MR2 brakes are ten times better than an M100s. But without doing serious mods, its not going to be as quick as they are similar weight but the M100 had an extra 40-odd bhp.

I'd rather have an M100 on the road but even a std MR2 is more fun on track.

my elan was a f reg +2 which i rebuilt, new chassis, brakes engine o/haul, respray,( remind me what the m100 is,) although the elan was probably ahead of its time, and could beat a lot of motors ,i still prefer the mr2, a lot of drivers do not realise this and they are suprised when they are left behind by a 19 yr old car! mr2`s rock.:praise2: :driving: :driving: :driving:
