Paul Woods
02-04-2006, 11:35

Ayup Paul, remember we looked at my t-Vis...

160 Miler per tank sound about right around town???

Unreal.

gutted and glued, that explains the lack of bottom end power.

...... silly question, why would someone gut the tvis on an NA? :hmm: Might have to check everything in mine's ok and moving smoothly.

the mech still moves, just no flappage.

Thinking about it though, it wouldn't really effect the mpg would it? more air than norm making its way through, just a weaker mix.

Also stopped, on the inlet cam 5 bearing shell, mayo! not a alot, but some.

The engine wouldn't be running efficiency at lower revs. You'd deffo get higher fuel consumption.

Aye, therefore - i'll hunt down a working one of them too.

This is going to be one i wish i never started me thinks lol.

And thats as far as i can go today, no sockets for the head bolts and no deep 14mm socket for the downpipe bolts.

Everything else out and off though, does the mounting near the cambelt need removing?

Paul Woods
02-04-2006, 14:42
head bolt socket is normal double hex 10mm,i agree with goldy you will use more fuel with a gutted rail.

Didnt i give you a spare t-vis rail rick? mounting stays on.

Sure did. couldn't unsieze it - as hard as i tried.

Will have a read about corolla GTi non-tvis units and see if I can incorp' that sysem for this car.

probably slightly more power at higher rpms would be the reason, think of the difference between a roller barrel throttle body and a normal butterfly type, air still has to flow around the flat butterfly and spindle, where as on a roller barrel throttle body its just a hole when on wide open throttle

bit pointless on a road car though due to lack of midrange grunt

No rods AT ALL!!!!!

MPG round town is arse, but it's never seemed slow.

Last D-plater though was a hell of alot more rapid.

I feel once i put a decent T-Vis unit on - it won't open, and i'll be hunting an original problem.

Aye - seen them chief - rev 1 head is different though, any1 know if this will fit?

Paul Woods
03-04-2006, 06:45
yep it fits, the only difference being the shape of the t-vis vsv electrical plug, just use your own vsv.

mr2gti

Now hunting for a superlong 10mm double hex socket, mine was too shallow FFS!

Paul Woods
06-04-2006, 06:34
you dont need a long one mate,i just use a regular 3/8's driven 10mm chrome vanadium double hex.

mr2gti
06-04-2006, 18:30
Aye - were OFF and guess what i've found.....

http://www.resonate-rx.co.uk/headmr2.jpg

3 of the 4 outer most head bolts were easy as hell, without a crack or creek to remove!!!

Pay attention to Cylinder 4 There's my pressure issue!

Paul Woods
06-04-2006, 18:34
i would say i told you so but it seems pointless now mate....theres the proof that these HG chemical tests dont work.

Is the block around number four water jacket corroded? if it is its new engine time as a new HG wont fix it mate....scrape it clean and lay a flat steel edge on the block, see if theres any daylight showing through.

lol.

Glad to of had a pop at it myself though, good to get on the tools again. Heads are so light on these! The 205 XU head is twice the weight!!!!

And, the 4age head fits snug in a panasonic DVD box!!!! Quality.

how much they taken off then rick ?

Paul Woods
10-04-2006, 18:34
looks about right to me,cant be arsed to photoshop your pic, pretend the exhaust valves are eyes, then the water jacket below that is a smiley mouth, see the little hole in the middle of the mouth? if that gets near the surface of the head they have taken more off than necessary,it sits pretty close to the surface anyway....just for reference.

mr2gti
10-04-2006, 19:11
Seems alot, but i've never had it done before lol.

?30 is a fecking bargain though me thinks. Roll on the reassembly weekender!
