Yep you read that right, we've been working closely with a customer of ours on this build for a year now, and supplied the engine/gearbox for it, now it is back with us for finishing off, wiring up and a few other jobs before it leaves to have its body fitted.

It's an absolute masterpiece...

Hello All, Names Rob and I am the owner/Builder of this Listerbell rolling chassis that Paul is working on, Hopefully when he has worked his magic it will be a powered chassis not just a pushing chassis. Thanks for your kind comments, The Stratos has always been a dream of mine since I first saw one in the 70s. It's taken me this long to get the time and money to realise it. There is a build thread of sorts but unfortunately it's on the Stratos Enthusiasts Club site and you have to be a member to view. I wanted to go a different route to other replicas (not sure what to call it really because apart from the body it isn't a replica, personally I think the best reference to it is a Component Supercar) hence my collaboration with Woodsport and decision to use the Toyota V6 motor. Most people use the Alfa V6 which though a good engine is getting old and has nowhere near the horsepower of the Toyota Engine which is also lighter and more modern. This is the first Listerbell to use this engine (It won't be the last) and therefore has been developed as the build has progressed by Craig at Listerbell. The mantle has now gone over to Paul development wise to make it work on stock ECU in something other than a Toyota, Has that even been done before?, be interested to know. If anyone is interested in building one or just wants to know anything will be happy to answer questions. Hopefully Paul will update things as he's going along for me as well as you.

Well Hello Rob, that thing is staggeringly awesome. I want to build one. I'm interested in a parts list and the diagrams & plans for the chassis and body. I'm sure the "kits" are expensive, so I would like to build my own. Is it possible to get a hold of that stuff?

Goldy
03-06-2015, 18:10
Hi Rob, good man, you're pretty much building my childhood dream. I've been doing research for a long time and agree with you that the Lister Bell is more like a modernised version of the car. I looked at the Hawk Hf kit for a long time as it was the best looking replica but the chassis and suspension are old fashioned now and donor parts are difficult to get. Out of interest if you don't mind telling me, how much is the kit from Lister Bell?

ironman523
03-06-2015, 23:10
Would think it wouldn't be easy to build from scratch, there isn't really a parts list as its all built bespoke, it isn't a kit car it doesn't have a donor apart from the engine/gearbox and a small amount of parts from a Fiat X19 as per the original. If you look on the Listerbell website the car components are broken down into different sections which you can buy as packs, To build one with the Alfa engine would cost around 30 grand. A real one has just sold for 430,000 euro, so 30 grand is probably a bargain :-)

Not a lot to report other than i'm knee deep in wiring.

ECU mounted on its own alloy panel, COR mounted beside that, fusebox being terminated as we speak.... it's a slow process on such a meticulous car.

even putting the loom in will have to be done with so much care, to keep the overall, "just so" look.

I don't envy you this time Paul. I know you will do well though...even if the current level of workmanship is stupendously high

almost to the point of putting sleeves/colour matched tubes to run wires though(like conduit, but painted frame colour to blend in)

Paul Woods
19-06-2015, 06:49
That is pretty much the level it needs to be mate, surgical care being taken.

With the wiring complete, which took a lot of time due to having to wire up a fusebox from scratch, i made a bespoke intake pipe...

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2015/07/24.jpg

Then it was ready for its first fire up.

After cranking the engine for 20 seconds or so with the spark disabled just to get oil pumped around the engine, i stuck the EFI fuse in and it fired straight up..... as usual phone videos do nothing for the sound quality, but it sounds very nice indeed in person, ferocious when revved up, this thing is going to fly.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpVtv6eEw4I

Just the wiring to tape up/conduit and secure before it goes back to Rob for the final part of the build, i will update the thread when we see the car again one day.

Hello Paul and all, Thought I would give a quick update on this, progress has been slow am afraid but progressing nevertheless, Car now has a body and am now doing the final fit of the doors, spoilers etc, Body has been painted in Rosso Corsa Ferrari 300/12 same as the F40 and looks stunning. Also working through the mechanicals/wiring etc and it's all coming together slowly but surely. Hoping that the car will be finished in time to be on display at Stoneleigh Show on 1st May. Will update again when have got some more things fitted to the body.3030

Everyone loves kickass cars and we all say "I'd love to have that" when we see really special cars.
This Lister Bell Lancia 2GR, is on my All time most wanted list. I'd take it over a Lambo or a Zonda. Because it's different. It's familiar but all new. I can be built to spec and nobody will have one exactly like it.

It's going to be sick light, scary fast, Iconic and beautiful all at the same time. Anyone with enough money can buy a hypercar. Not everyone can have a 2GR Stratos.
This car is in a class that rivals that V8 Honda race car and things of that nature. Impressively hooked, can you tell?

On the Trailer going to Stoneleigh, was going to take some better pictures but it was raining so it stayed in the garage until it was time to go on the trailer, more to follow, I have gone with a diamond pattern alcantara inside which will no doubt annoy the purists but WTF, I have a Japanese engine so sod them I say, If you check out Listerbell Facebook page there is footage on there of the only other 2GR Stratos which is in Australia, interestingly it sounds very similar to a real Stratos, the Alfa engine which they all use sounds nothing like, mine has not yet been driven but sounds good even at tickover,The car is going for IVA soon so will update for those who are interested.
Further update
Have lost the will trying to upload the pictures here from iPad,can't make them small enough, I may have uploaded some to a directory on coppermine not sure. Perhaps someone can advise me.

Amusingly, in the same breath as complimenting the attention to detail, they mentioned the Ferrari V6 that was fitted. :eusa_wall:

12-07-2016, 11:34
I have uploaded more pictures of the car in image hosting under my Album, not sure if ive done it right hope you can see them. many thanks for your interest and positive comments about the car. Personally I think it has to be one of the most desirable cars on the planet (I am biased obviously), I would rather run this car than any supercar, the only flaw I have found with it so far is that when I park it somewhere I have to go back through the crowd of people that have gathered round it, a lot of whom to my surprise know exactly what it is. I cannot describe the feeling of driving this down a country lane with the 2gr engine anywhere between 4 and 6500 it just sounds awesome and I would say very similar to the original Ferrari engine in that it is a high revving V6 rather than the Alfa engine usually used which is a bit of a thumper. If any of you are interested and live anywhere near Lincoln then I would be happy to take you out in it. Am now doing the fine tuning and ironing out small faults, had 4 wheel tracking done yesterday and next Monday it is going for a Dyno run to see what the engine is producing, will be interesting, it feels powerful but I guess we will see, I am hoping for 300hp, it is the standard 2Gr motor as prepared by Paul with Berk headers and Highlander ECU. It is running on the Listerbell exhaust with 2 cats built in so that may restrict it a bit, a free flowing exhaust is being developed at the moment by Listerbell which will be fitted when available. My thanks again go to Paul, without his help and advice and knowledge this car would never have been built with the 2GR motor, so thanks Paul, the Engine makes it and sets it apart. Will keep this updated
Happy motoring
Rob
