Okay, it's about time we got a bunch of decent MR2 videos together to show off our cars. There are videos all over the place, but 1 thread stuffed full of car porn seems overdue. Here's the rules:-
1) Video is of a car you own, have owned, or at least built or been involved in.
2) MR2's are the main focus here, but other vehicles welcome too (of course!) except anything French.
3) No long winded discussions, your video, a bit of text, that's it!
4) Embed your video using the toolbar button, then you can watch it in the thread rather than having to go find it.
5) If you don't have a video, get the wife and go record one now!
Enjoy what follows!
Chris.

Wee vid of a post repair shakedown when it still had the 4AGE in it.

This one is a little bit of a stretch since it's not my car, so no problem if you want to remove it. I do know the owner (lives a couple of miles away) and I've seen touched and heard it. This was filmed at JAE (2005 IIRC) it was running 700bhp when it was imported. The car is gone now, destroyed in a fire but the engine lives on.

Jimi, was your car really on TV? 5th Gear? How did you manage that? You must be special! These videos are fantastic, keep them coming!

Sure was :icon_biggrin:
One of the researchers posted on the OC (.co.uk) looking for a MK1 for the the show, I put mine forward among others and they chose my car. Took it down to Manchester for the filming, more pics here Clicky (http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/jlawson/FifthGear/indexfg.html) It's also been in a couple of magazines MR2Only and Classic and Sports Car

Jimi, that is wicked cool. Forever emblazoned into the history books and the memories of millions of people. AWESOME.
I didn't make a proper video today but I did take the car out to run up and get some beer. Had a little helper take a few shots for me.
It's all about the sounds they make....

Yes- I am still running the four cylinder rev counter and I turned up the sound in the video to exaggerate the sound of the back box. :driving:
A video walk around I made today, to send to a possible buyer.
It just went up, if it's not immediately viewable, it should be shortly.

That is one nice car sir.
:)
The car looks totally immaculate... But you need to adjust your handbrake ;-)
The car looks totally immaculate... But you need to adjust your handbrake ;-)
It grabs the rear calipers with power. I modified the cable stops because I was unaware at the time, that Paul Woods had given us the secret top tip of turning the caliper piston one turn (or a half turn- I can't remember) out before reinstalling the caliper. I could not get it to grab the rear rotors even with new cables, so I put a spacer in the cable stops. It works perfect. I found the tip after I had it in and working, so I can't be bothered to go back in there now.
The handbrake looks ok to me- what should it look like?
I was just winding you up, all the mr2s ive ever driven have seemed to have a high handbrake compared to other cars :-)
Wind up completed. :) I know there's other videos out there. There was a video from this year's JAE that a girl was driving a V6 two. Plus others I'm sure!

Enjoyed that. Looks really smooth, blasting past everything but the caterham. A bit bum clenching at the end.

Scary how quick it was to decide it wanted to turn around. Hadn't quite finished moving from the left to the right of the track, hit the brakes hard - small weave left and right then BAM round it went...
That was crazy- I was waiting for some abrupt movement of the wheel, but that thing just swapped ends with literally no warning. Awesome!
Looks like you may have put a rear tyre on the grass ?

Yeah I may have, but I think it's mainly because the rear wasn't 100% behind the fronts (and flat) when i hit the brakes. The pendulum motion starts (you can see the steering wheel move in my hands) as soon as I hit the brakes...

The pendulum motion starts (you can see the steering wheel move in my hands) as soon as I hit the brakes...That's pretty much an explanation of what 'Snap Overtsteer' is Gav. A well known trait of mid-engined cars.
Good to watch just the same.

Conventional 'snap oversteer' happens under power, not under braking. I think that's usually down to booting the throttle like you have clogs on (in an mr2)
Soz Gav, I made an assumption there. Havent had my medication yet.

Great footage Gavs - very entertaining (although I still wish I could superglue your hands to the steering wheel :)
Just on the terminology , I've been lucky enough to drive a variety of cars in anger over the years and I think our chosen model is still one of the most neutral handling cars going. 'Snap oversteer' is usually held to be an unexpected (or intentional) break away of the rear of the vehicle during cornering. My racing MGC roadster was one of the most unpredictable in this respect- with ineffectual lever arm suspension, the rear end would 'patter' under braking and step out with little warning. Mini Coopers were a different kettle of fish- with inherent understeer you would enter a bend and provoke oversteer by left foot braking, maintaining this with application of the throttle. Must confess I've never had similar problems with my MR2, love the handling ( even with standard suspension ). I understand what Torero means- with the extra power of the V6 it's easy to provoke a Jeremy Clarkson style lurid power slide ( especially in the wet ), but you're correct- not 'snap oversteer' more over enthusiasm. The chief instructor at Harewood Hill Climb, who until last year had never been in an MR2 , was very complimentary about my '2' and said it felt one of the best balanced cars on the day. Aren't we lucky to be able to spend time on tracks and hillclimbs exploring our cars (and our own ) limits. Love it!

Wet track lose in 2GR SW20 at 170 Kph. Beached and towed out of the sand trap. Looks like we need to tune out the overun built into the drive by wire.

Easily done in the wet and braking into high speed corners. File under 'mr2 handling' :-) :-)
OK- Here, from the USA. I hate this guy. Not sure why.

All I can say is I'm glad I don't live over there with your relaxed view of gun laws, does the guy bore students to death ?
We know nearly all mid engine cars suffer the same thing handling issues and that a turbo mk2 in a youngsters hands is a recipe for finding a ditch and becoming a donee for a mk1 transplant, but half the fun is driving a no driving aids pure oooooh shit no ecu to save me car.
The mk1 has tried to spit me into a barrier and a lamppost and off the road but that's the fun or I'm abut mad, as jc says if it doesn't try and kill you it's not a sports car.
Yeah, I posted on his video and basically said if you don't know what a car is doing, you'll crash it. I also told him to stuff a V6 in there and it'll fix all of his problems. The guy's too stupid and boring to even use a wrench. And whomever is doing the music in that video needs to be hit over the head with a little bit of talent FFS. Now I'm all fired up... this damn guy hahahaa
Did I type that outloud? hehe
