I have started converting my steering column to an electric one. It has fitted underdash with no modification to the heater elements, I have almost complete the conversion, only missing the steering joint and the steering controller.I'll keep you update.!!!

I only need the controller to test it, It will come in a few days I hope. Paul is there any problem for the motor to work it without voltage?

yam yam, if this can work with no voltage on demand without issues, then it will be the best of both worlds,

nice job dimi

And..... installed....

Only 3 extra kgr added to the car weight, no big loss for the gain. The other advantage is that the steering has no play now because I have used joints with bottled connection, the column's last one which has rubber inside and most of the times was worn has left. SO the steering is completely accurate.

Very nice work.

FYI you've posted that pic as a URL, if you want to embed the picture in your message, see the link I added earlier.

Basically get a direct URL for the image and paste it into your message with 'IMG' in square brackets at the start and '/IMG' in square brackets at the end.

Yes with no power the column behaves exactly like a manual column with no resistance.

I found it one of the best things i'd ever done with very big wheels etc, it made the steering effortless.

I have installed also quaife quick rack this is the reason I have added eps. How did you find my column?Everything is fitting underdash with no cut. The problem and the difficulty was at the very few space that was at the upper side of the column. If you look carefully to the images I have dremeled the motor chassis itself and the position sensor to take some extra space.

Your column looks good, i had to trim the heater pipes a bit, so well done on getting it to fit without trimming.

I have a smaller unit in mind with the position sensor from the downside. I will check it in a yard and I will inform you if you like.

If it's size you want to focus on, try the Fiat cinquecento unit, it's tiny compared to the Vauxhall ones.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fiat-Cinquecento-parts-starter-motor-steering-column-door-handles-lock-brake-/161093710246?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2581eef1a6

By the way, i have a couple of complete Vauxhall power columns spare that are complete with control units and variable sensitivity if anyone wants to go down this route.

erm yes I would like to go down this route as previously talked about, I would probably need an idiots guide though.

Whats the disadvantage?

None really, it's just a very compact unit.

Tiggs/ Tommy, i wouldn't be selling my columns as plug and play units, you would need to do this yourself, i just don't have time i'm afraid, but i do have all of the component parts.

That's cool, a how to should suffice. Did you have you're running full time or switchable like the Punto Parking button?

I have finally installed the controller of the motor. Now everything is working fine. I like it very much.I'll leave some more feedback after a few days of driving...
