A little side project for me, i bought these wheels from Tommy a few weeks ago, super rare Veilside Andrews 3 piece split rims, 4 and 5 stud fitment, very classy but looking a bit sorry for themselves.

Anyway i knew the resto wasn't going to be cheap, but wheels like these need to be saved.

Work started with a full stripdown, which took hours! The split rim bolts were so badly corroded and seized, but eventually all 160 of them came out!

After shotblasting i treated them to a 4+1 highbuild primer coat, this takes out all dimples left over from the shotblasting and leaves the surface as a blank canvas...

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2013/06/66.jpg

Today i started the painting process and gave them a quick basecoat black covering, tomorrow i will lay a black 2k over this to make them pop.

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2013/06/67.jpg

The rim dishes have been sent away to a professional wheel restorer, i could do them myself but it's so time consuming and time is something i just don't have these days, sometimes it is just easier and more cost effective to outsource certain jobs. Imoc member "cardhore" restores wheels for a living, his workmanship is second to none...

An example of his work...

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2013/06/68.jpg

So my four dishes have had curbing dings welded and refaced, then polished to a mirror finish, they are due back anyday now.

I am going for gold bolts, to contrast against the mirror dishes and the black spoke centres....

Final rebuilding will happen next week sometime, i'm looking forward to seeing them completed, as to what i'm going to do with them i have no idea, they now owe me the national debt of Greece, so might keep them as a backup set for the 2gr Mk1.

More to come.

Very nice wheels mate if your ever after selling them on to another 2gr mk1 owner let us know nod wink.
And I will have to search for this guy as I have a set of wheels that need some love spending on them, as I want them to look good for jae.

Wheel porn. Nom nom nom.

I'm actually thinking about getting a set refurbed. I saw some wheels on a 928 done in 'black chrome' a while back and they made my tummy go funny.

The resto continued with the centres glossed, flattened and polished to a mirror finish...

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2013/06/108.jpg

Then the bolts went in, it's amazing the difference these make..... check out the reflections!

With the 4 stud PCD being 4x114.3 they will need 4x100 PCD spacer adapters to work on my MK1.... so i've no idea what to do with them now, i think i might just occassionally wander into the spray booth where they are and pull my pud.

Paul Woods

adapterkings in the usa do spacer adapters and can make them hubcentric as well as wheelcentric/stud wtf that is. I have been talking to them about adaptors for a 120x5 stud pattern for some 10j rears, but the wheels im after cost a bloody fortune and at the mo lack of funds is stalling this idea.

those do look mega paul whats the 5 stud pattern and what offset size are the wheels ? like ive said after the house move pm me if your going to sell these mate.

Paul Woods
10-06-2013, 19:49
The 5 stud PCD is 114.3, Mk2 fitment, so would just need spacing only on your rear end, the fronts would need a 4x100 spacer/adapter.

I'll have a think about it and see what happens, really tempted to get the adapters and fit these to my Mk1, just means spending more money.

Offset is +41, so they need spacing to fill our arches, quite handy considering the adapters will take that up.

snowtigger

I would go for it Paul, I think these would really fit with the JDM theme and just look a bit more special than the Borbets. I assume they have a centre cap though - that was the finishing touch on the other rims so would be a shame not to have something similar on these?

In for a penny, in for a pound and all that...

Centre caps on the Andrews are actually garishly bling. Custom ones?

Just checked a few out on Google Images...yes they are. Look marginally better in black, but still plenty of room for improvement.

I think if Paul fitted the gold bolts to it they would look quite blinghy, personally some alloy flat plate and the three mounting screws would look quite nice.

The fake centre nut looks a bit wrong but this is tb when have we ever said don't do it, be different.

They really are beautifull!

But you would only ever use them for swanning round the garage & shows, couldnt stomach them out in even a light shower.

Beautiful wheels Paul - Top Job!

Interestingly - the Blue Volk GTP's in your first post are now on TonyleFrog's 330whp Rev4 Azure blue turbo - saw them at the weekend and they're truly lush. :)

snowtigger

Mr snowtigger is most definitely having these, he has even bought some new light weight alloy wheel nuts D1 spec.

These wheel nuts are hyper strong and as lite as a fag packet or so the jap blurb has it.

I can't wait to trial fit them to the car and sort out offsets and spacers.

Torero
04-07-2013, 13:13
I've got similar ones on mine Tiggs. They are lightweight racing lug nuts with a bi metal insert on the seat, so that they don't overtighten and damage the alloy. If only they could do the same for the twat driving it, I've kerbed them a couple of times already.

snowtigger
04-07-2013, 14:17
Well I'm not fitting these till the day before jae as I want them pristine, I can use my kerbed Rotas till then and swop between them both.

Rotas for winter these for special occasions.

Paul Woods
04-07-2013, 19:17
Very wise Tiggs, i was going to do the same, just treat these as the show wheels, i think a winter would kill all of my hard work.

snowtigger
04-07-2013, 23:20
I already have a set of rota wheels stacked in the back living room with a set of brand new never been on the car avensis Vermont alloys.

Then the borbet A set I've just bought and there's no room to fit these will post up a pic later of the back room.

Just need space argh.

Tommytank
05-07-2013, 08:24
Borbet A's you say? ... 4x100?

snowtigger
05-07-2013, 09:15
Yes 7.5 front 16 i think and 9 by 16 rears 4x100 with nut borbet proper alloy caps not the cheapo plastic ones.

I've not fitted the rears as the adapter/spacer has cost me quite a bit to buy, as I'm running 5x114.3 on the back so need converting to 4x100.
All come with good tyres as well, but may have to sell them on here or fleabay to make space sadly.

snowtigger
05-07-2013, 12:49
I'm listening....

Well I will post a for sale thread if any ones interested?
I paid £450 so that's what I would want back if there's interest I can post pics up of them and start a for sale thread ?

Just need to dig them out the back room as they were the first things in the new house.

Tommytank
05-07-2013, 16:37
Folk are always interested in Borbet A's. I'm balls deep in 3Sgte debt at the moment, unless you want another set of split rims.... ;)

snowtigger
14-07-2013, 10:25
These are now at home in the living room looking way to nice to fit to a thrashed mk1 just yet.

While at a home exhibit show last month I had seen coffee tables that were round with a glass see through top inlaid that you can fit an alloy wheel inside these would be perfect for that, only problem is I can't drive 4 coffee tables lol.

Come on tiggs, stop messing about and put these on the car already at least on one side for a cheeky picture ;-)

snowtigger
14-07-2013, 16:16
Ah I wish i could as these will need some nice rubber on them first some 255/35/17 eagle f1 v2 at £164 a corner ish or the mclaren 305/40/17 tires I've spotted on eBay at £240.

Also the front wheels need adapter spacers for converting from 4x100 to 4x114.3 and then spacing correctly plus I need to buy some ohlins suspension or the rm inverted dampers at nearly a thou to sort the ride height and suspension.

Plus finish getting the new garage now the base is in for the end of the month so it looks like it could be jae when I roll on the new rims.
