Hi everyone. I am currently building a 2gr for my mrs. So far got the driver and passenger side mount on. Still working on the other two mount. Build plan.

2gr
e153
turbo axle with modded camry axle
vipec v88
MWR Fuel Pump 265lph
Fidanza Flywheel
ATS clutchmaster stage 4

Exhaust/header I will be making my own. Been thinking of routing it over the tranny for future turbo. I plan to atleast have a/c. Haven't really figure out how I wnt to do the shifters.

Thanks guy. A lot of this wouldn't happen if it wasn't for the wonderful informational forums and inspiration like Gouky, Paul Woods, and others who have completed the swap to the mk1, mk2 and mk3.

Some spot where I had to hit with a mallet and shave off. I got tired of moving the engine left and right as I lower the car to clear the motor and tranny.

I'm going to try to get a new piece made to use the stock engine mount using the three bolt. This engine is from a Sienna. I think the highlander and Sienna are the same and the Rav4 is a bit different.

Passenger Mount. I am using innovation engine mount as the passenger mount is a lot stronger. My stock mount has too much free play to get a good measurement of it. I'm not sure if the mount will last itself (84,000 miles on stock passenger mount). I am using the stock mount to for measurement since the bolt hole are a lot smaller for a precision measurement (10mm vs 12mm innovation).

I plan to make the mount something like this. Make a plate to adapt the stock engine mount reverse, moving the mount one hole back. For the bracket use the 3 red hole as a mounting point.
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2013/04/361.jpg

I don't want to cut the crossmember any more thinner at this area to use the stock mounting point for the e153 because if I do, I need to figure a way to make room to wrench the two bolt in. The crossmember would be so thin and would have to beef it up with materials.

Rear Mount is completed. I'm going to go back and check all the other mounts and p[lay with the stock passenger mount. I'm not sure what I wanna do next, gas pedal or the linkage. Might striaght working on my new fuel line and routing the radiator. Need a break my brackets. So far all the mount looks good.

I'm been looking at the linkage. Currently modded a gen4 3sgte shaft to fit. Have to machine an adapter to flip one of the linkage adapter to flip it 180. The stock spyder bracket stay for the cable I might cut up and weld it onto something since it's a very tight fit squeezing it in as is. Should have it figure out in a few weeks, lol.

Here is how I plan to do my linkage. There will be three separate bracket to three different mounting point. I think this is easier for me. Paul Woods and Shara Yakuza both works great also.

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2013/05/115.jpg

In green is what are reusable from the sw20 e153. Those circle in gary needs to be bought new. I ordered one of the part and it will take months until I get the part from Japan.

Yellow and Red will need to be bought new or used. Red is one piece unlike the spyder.
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2013/05/116.jpg

Once everything is good to go, this have to be shaved and a new pice has to be welded on.

Here are a few frustrating things about figuring out the linkage.

Here's a thought I had. On the 3sgte the intake manifold is on this side. I could be possible with custom cables but IDK about the headers (with the bend to the shifter bracket). Setup like an all-trac.
http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2013/05/119.jpg

Paul Woods
09-05-2013, 07:14
I think you're overcomplicating the gear linkage setup, just get the selector assembly from a GT4 (alltrac) , that will slide straight in as one unit and work, then use the roadster linkages copying the way Toyota do it on the roadster gearbox, and make a custom gear cable bracket..... done.

NoobieMRS
09-05-2013, 22:27
Here's what I came out with. I think it works great. Just need to tweak and peek a little to get everything tight. Making the cable bracket would be the last thing I do. A little more work on the selector shaft but I kind of like the out come better. Let me know what you think Paul.

Very nice, that is basically a variation on how I do it with the linkages just in slightly different places but the operation is the same, I don't recognize your selector assembly though .... http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2013/05/149.jpg .. what transmission is that from? I use a GT4 one but the shift arm is 180* out to your one..... great work though, i'm glad you didn't go down the extended cable route.

NoobieMRS
10-05-2013, 07:21
Gen4 3sgte. Its probably the same I assumed. I took the two inner locks on the shaft and turned it 180 degree. One tooth on the inner locks has to be dremal down. There was a few components/guards on the shaft from the gen4 that didn't do anything so I too k those off. Idk if the gt4had those components/guards on the inner locks.

Paul Woods
10-05-2013, 07:24
Ah, you turned the shaft 180*, that explains why I didn't recognize it, when I use the Gt4 assembly the whole design is copied from the roadster way of doing it with the "gate" selector underneath the shaft. Nice work though, I love your brackets etc.

That looks great, a little overcomplicated compared to my method but if it works it works!

One thing i spotted was the angle you have the cable bracket on the "gate" cable....

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2013/05/377.jpg

You seem to have maxed the angle out already (green) because of the position of the mounting bracket, the selector linkahe moves in an arc (Red) so when you move that linkage forward that angle (blue) is going to get worse, the cable may have issues in future or tighten towards one end of the throw due to that angle, it would be better if you could straighten the bracket to the yellow position to keep the cable at 90* to the pivot, like you have done with your other selector cable which looks perfect.

Just thinking longevity and smoother operation really.

Ok. I had some cut and damage connectors. The spyder has the extra plug I need so that saves time. I don't have the correct plugs for my a/c so I'll be taking that off. I bought it off ebay and was suppose to be for a sienna but it doesn't match up. Thats cool thats how ebay is.

If anyone has advise please help. Here's what I have plan.

spyder ecm - run starter, oil pressure sensor, engine coolant temp (might piggy to the vipec or run a separate one for vipec), alternator.

Vipec ems - Wiring as per Vipec, Cam sensor (x4, hall type), crank sensor (reluctor type), VVT oil thing (x4), MAP sensor, IAT, Knock sensor (x2), wideband (y-pipe), DBW, TPS.

Fuel - maybe both but sihnal to vipec.
Speed sensor - From abs (I think), shouldn't be a problem sending it to the vipec, or else use the e153 electrical speed sensor.
Reverse safety switch - I didn't pay attention if the spyder had one on the tranny. Would have to look into it.

I think that should be it.

1zz harness, organizing what I need

Waiting for the 16NA ss and aluminum fittings to arrive to redrop the fuel tank :( and weld on the fittings. It was more than what I wanted to spend :( Have to reroute one of the hard line. Due to the a/c lines not deleted I can't fit an aluminum tube inside. 20AN fittings are too expensive and 16AN should do. I also got frustrated at looking pages of 1 1/4" forms hose. Once you add in and buy the formed radiator hose, it would cost a bit less than going AN fittings. One of the hard line looks like it will hit the header. Stock header will clear.

What are you using for Evap then? I don't see any breather system on your tank? If you don't provide a way for it to breathe it will vapour lock (suck itself into vacuum).

Just uncap the fitting on the tank, run the line to the stock Mk3 cannister and from there to the 2gr Evap valve.

I see a sensor on some of the evap system (VSV, VSV purge, etc) and I don’t think I have the knowledge to wire them for the vipec. I was going to run the 1zz ecm and vipec but now decided to run only the vipec.
I wasn’t aware I needed to run a vent. Well it be ok if I connect one of these. I disconnect one and blew in one of them and there seems to be a small one way valve inside.

Just have the original Mk3 charcoal cannister plumbed to the tank permanently with no VSV control on it and plumb it to the plenum, or vent to atmosphere...... either way you cannot leave the tank sealed, it will cause a problem.

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2013/06/300.jpg

Plug the a/c lines. The spyder a/c connectors works for the 2gr. Just have to trim the inside part. I think you can use the spyder lines cutting the rubber lines and attach it again. Stock rubber hose are too long. Should be fairly simple (tool ranging from $250-$1000+). Depends on which a/c you get tho. I thought I had a sienna like my harness but it had a different plug which worked with the spyder plug. Still not sure from which car/year.

Reroute the lines for the passenger abs sensor and tail light (I think, been too long since I took it apart) through the antenna cable. I'm using the passenger harness hole for the vipec. Cleaner I think.

Alright Gouky's 2gr header. Had to cut and make room for it. It barely touched the firewall. Had to redrop the engine and make room. I thought I was going to lose two days but dropped the motor, cut, weld, prime (paint brush), reinstall the motor, finish fuel lines to motor, radiator hose (pulley side have to wait on a 90* fitting, poor est.) today plus watch my two boys (1 and 3 year old) while my wife went to work. Good day over all but not in time to get it running by Saturday for the mr2 meet I think (still have crossmember to finish, a few wires to attach to the body, find all the little pieces around the house/garage, make the mid pipe and exhaust).

All the oil in the picture is because I busted the seal on the slave cylinder pressurizing the system (I was pumping like crazy!!!). Once I figured it out it was a simple job. IIRC the mk2 wasn't anything like this.

Hows how it's looking right now. Got minor stuff to finish but 10 minor equals quite a bit.

Crossmember. I had my wife paint it while I went to work on something else. Turned out ok, but I told her it's perfect :)

Axle. I think it's in a very good position. Almost parral with the outer shaft slightly up (15-30 degree).

Got the car running today. Had to have Ralf help me out with the e-throttle and pretty much anything related to the vipec. Got to wire in the coolant fan and make the exhaust and it will be time to put it back together. I spent some time yesterdsay and there is no way I'm going to get equal length. I can with the piping 2 inch off the ground. Enjoy the video.

Epic work.

If you can't make the exhaust equal length, fit a balance pipe in there maybe?

:)

^Thanks you.

Got the car running this evening. Took it out and drove for about 2 hours. Everything seems good to go. Shifting is good, no grinding.

While I had the motor out I cut one of the heater pipe further back so i can just hook unhook one of the shifter cables.

I had to make a tool a while back to tighten thos16AN fittings. Works very well.
I was lucky I didn't throw the section I cut out away yet as I had to weld it back on to make the swivel fit. Those fittings are 1.5" long.

Spiffing. Better get mine finished!

Any issues / codes thrown with the wiring?

Chris.

I'm on a vipec v88. No codes here for set for a 1 fault code since my wideband sends a 5.1v signal at 22.1 afr and 5.0v is max on my cal table.

^Thanks, lol.

Went through some of the pictures and saw some that I took and not uploaded. Here is how I bolted the linkage. Nothing tricky but a flat head works well holding the socket. I later cut the lower heater hose. It doesn't require me to unbolt the linkage to pieces in the further.

A video of the linkage. Goes pretty good. I wish I can say like stock but it's been so long since I driven the spyder I can't remember (i've done one oil change since I bought it in Nov 2011, only put ~3,000 miles since I bought it). Anyways a video for those who are wondering about the linkage. Unmodified shifter cables.

I finally dropped the front some more since the kids wanted to be outside today. Might take both of them for a ride, lol. Too hot, so I stayed in the shade and just watch them run in the sun and scratch my car. Got to love that hot top. I might go to the movies tonight and feel younger later with wifey on the hardtop :) Low and slow :)
