Chaps,

I'm looking at getting a HVLP spray gun with a turbine unit for spraying a whole bunch of kitchen cabinets, doors and other woody things. I'm looking at the earlex HV5000 and wondered if anyone had any experience of using these? Could it also be used to paint a car? It says its suitable for this on the manufacturers website but I can't find much out there on the net.

Thoughts and views appreciated!

Anyone used one of these? I have never used one but I read that it wasn't the best to paint a car

I used a fugi hlvp. It's good just don't expect perfection although I've heard of other units that works better.

I'm saving mines for home improvement, that should work wonders. Some people complain about the orange peels when the turbine gets hot. I didn't have that issues so I think it depends on which unit you get.

I bought the van for cheap 1 owner with a little body damage. I did the body work myself, no pro here but time was an issue so quality was a little under par. I learned that, body work is not for me.

The first day my wife drive it, someone hit her while she was shopping.

Ive just used an Earlex for the first time since buying it, to spray the garden furniture (2 large tables and 8 chairs) with an oil based paint, it did a very good job, was really quick & easy.

It did however take as long to clean the kit off afterwards as it did to prepare & do the job!
Also got into big trouble for overspraying the lettuce despite my efforts to cover everything.

For any household paint jobs, wouldnt hesitate to use again, but Id prefer to keep to water based as easier to clean than thinners everywhere.

I had thought of using it to spray the 2, but frankly ive had such a good result using cans and those handles that attach to the can, and its so easy to stop start a job I'll stick to the cans for car jobs.

why don't you use the usual compressor (100l) and average spray gun. I think the quality of the paint is very important and how to apply it (there is plenty of forum explaining how to do it).

I don't have a compressor or a gun at the moment and I read some stuff about the benefits of HVLP for spraying stuff... less overspray, no water / oil in air, better coverage I was wondering if it's true or internet B/S

I know this thread is old, but I feel my reply is relevant.

These systems are superb if you know how to use them. I bought mine - can't remember make or model off top of head - nearly 10 years ago, for about 100 notes. I bought it after a review in Classic Car where they stated that they would be happy to respray a full car with this kit. I was skeptical at first, but when I got the kit, it is true.

I got it for my guitar manufacturing business I had at the time, spray celly primers, colour coats, and lacquer. The painted finish on a guitar comes under way closer scrutiny that the typical car, and it done well. Still needed a little flatting before polishing up, but I can't fault it.

I've since used it spraying thinned down gloss onto mdf, and even 2k, it works great. Sounds like a bloody hoover when its running though lol

I'll be dusting it off just shortly when I do the sills on the old Mr2...
