Hello folks, just had a fuel line explode on me, which was a tad exciting. Guess which direction it went!

On closer inspection, the fuel pressure VSV appears to be damaged, it dropped to bits when I touched it!

Anyone got a spare kicking around!?

Chris.

That's one hell of a gash you've got there, Chris.

You OK?

I was right in the line of fire! Right in the eyes!

Ran in the house and got my head in the sink, still burns a bit.

A combination of shit fuel line and the broken VSV I suspect.

Really fucking annoyed. Mostly with myself!

Calm down these things happen and milk is good to rinse acidic shit out your eyes stop it burning too much, it was probably old and worn.

is the regulator attatched to the fuel rail, did it have an rating embossed on the pipe?. the vsv is there to dump the fuel back down the return when you lift off throttle no?.. the pipe should still stand upto the fuel pressure all day long.

Sorry was under the car refitting the suspension.

Yes, pressure valve on the rail is piped to the VSV, heard it hissing and as I leaned in to take a closer look I got a shot to the face. Ooer. Was running the car up to temp and was going to have a fag while it was ticking over! Quite glad I didn't.

Nitrile silicone fuel line. Thought id ordered the same stuff as last time but wasn't impressed with the quality when I fitted it, hence being cross with myself.

No canister fitted, it rattled so I chucked it in the scrap pile. Same as I did to the last build and that works fine.

Will replace it with somthing a bit less shit and try again!

Thanks for the concern folks, aside from a huge pout and the fact I stink of fuel, I'm fine. Ego bruised.

Have seen the same thing with the shitey fuel hose they supply with the FPR's, just falls to pieces when fuel goes through it.

Glad it hit you and not a red hot exhaust :)

Thanks! I think!?

Thankfully nothing was really hot enough, but I'm going for a shower now, all my duds are going in the washing machine!

Another interesting nugget - when the fuel line blew out the car stopped dead.

I'm assuming the sudden drop in pressure caused the COR to shut it all down.

I will know when I put it all back together.

Damn annoying, engine runs like a dream. Really smooth and very quiet with the standard box on!

Damn glad you're ok there, that could have been really nasty.

Just a split or has the fuel damaged the hose? Daft question I know but seen "fuel hose" that's dissolved on contact with fuel before :icon_lol:

Just to confirm, the fuel hose split won't have anything to do with the broken VSV, even if you left the VSV feed off the FPR it won't cause it to burst, the two faults are unrelated.

Just looks like poo quality pipe to me, lucky boy!

Good question, the fuel hoses actually feel like they have softened.

From what I can see tho it looks like it just split open like a canoe.

I have contacted the people I bought the hose from, see what they say.

I'd put money on it being "carburettor hose" and not proper high pressure EFI hose, petrol pipe is not petrol pipe, carb hose will not work with EFI pressures.

We buy ours by the roll and the good stuff costs a fortune, £60 for a 10 meter roll, but it's the best quality available.

Sounds logical Paul.

I'm deffo buying upmarket for the next hose!

I have a spare vsv here, happy to send it over
You dont happen to have a spare exhaust heat shield for the firewall side manifold, could do a swap
