Hey guys,

Quick starter motor question.....

I have two starter motors:-

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2011/02/86.jpg

The one on the left - "86" came from the Lexus ES300
The one on the right - "67" was fitted to the MR2

They look similar, the bolt pattern is the same so i guess either will fit, but am i better going with the V6 starter or the n/a one?

Fanx,

If im not mistaken they will both fit, and wont make much difference. I would just use the one from the V6, wy try something else when you have the right part laying around?

How bigs the starter gear on the v6 and mr2 as there could be a difference in dimension of the ring gear?
Is the lexus an auto and the mr2 a manual?
You could bolt them both up and have a go starting the car up, then which ever doesn't sound like a bag of spanners in a washing machine use that one.
Toyota in there infinite wisdom like to use several parts in several vehicles as it makes sense to a mass manufacturer, but it does have it's draw backs as we have seen with the throttle pedal.

Good point, i better have a closer look.

The donor was an auto, but i also figured it might have bigger balls than the 2.0 n/a one (which worked perfectly).

We just use the Mr2 one on them all, no difference in cranking speed.
