It has come to my attention that there's a potential safety issue with my 2gr-fe mount kit. I'm sending everyone an e-mail about this but i wanted to post it here for people that have changed e-mail addresses to not miss it.

Sometime between 1993 and now toyota seems to have updated the right side mount for the 3s-gte. it seems that they've removed about 5mm of threads from the studs on the bottom of the mount.

The stock mount nuts are a little odd, they've got a long un-threaded section at the flange as seen here:

If you use the shortened stud 3sgte mount with my 2gr-fe mount kit and use the stock nut as shown above you'll only have partial thread engagement.

If you use a slightly different nut that has full threads there is just enough thread on the stud to get full engagement as seen here:

Here it is showing full thread engagement:

the unfortunate side is the required flange nut is not a generic piece that can be ordered at a normal fastener supplier. but Toyota has a part number for it: 90080-17227 with a retail cost of $1.67 each. As an added bonus, that part number already has a thread locking compound applied when you purchase it.

For future sales, I have 6 more in inventory that are like this, they will ship with the proper nuts and the next revision of the part will be adjusted to account for the shorter studs.

For past customers I have two options:

1)contact me via e-mail at Marc@frankensteinmotorworks.com and send me an address and i'll ship two of these nuts out to you free of charge.

2)contact me via e-mail at Marc@frankensteinmotorworks.com and tell me that you'll take care of it yourself using the above part number and I'll send you $10 via paypal to account for the price of the nuts and a bit extra for paypal fees and your time.

If neither of these solutions are acceptable to you, please contact me and suggest how i can make it right to you and i'll do my best to handle all reasonable requests.

For what it's worth. both halves of the mount are strong enough to carry the engine individually so as long as the upper half of the mount was installed there is no risk of having the engine come crashing to the ground.

Please accept my apologies for the oversight.

I will look into this Marc between me and Paul as to which fastener was fitted, I will take one off and have a gander first, kudos for spotting this problem and giving 2 good solutions to fix it, your going above and beyond mate for just two nuts lol.
I'm just glad you have spotted the problem, and given us the part number your a star.

Yes please don't panic folks, anyone that has had the 2gr fitted at Woodsport should be aware that this issue does not affect them, we check things like this on every build.

From what I remember on mine that nut was seized onto the stud. Undoing this took the stud out of the standard mount. When screwing the stud back in with the seized nut on it i got quite a few turns back into the mount, Certainly enough to be happy it was properly engaged.

I'll have a look at it when I'm next home but the engine is coming out again so shall assess then.

Cheers!

Just to tidy the engine bay and engine loom by running the cooling fan/starter/speedo wires into the existing 2GR/GE loom. Also going to reinstate the air-con/belts/electrics and give the engine a bit of blinging up. Doing all this is much easier with it out of the car.
