Well just to get us started off here is a few shots of the donor car, that we picked up from Durham last night. Previous owner said just needs a good clean, we didn't tell the guy we were just ripping the engine out.

Just as well as far as I can tell it would need .....

New exhaust
New suspension parts lots of funny noises when hitting bumps
New driver door lock
New discs and pad all round
.... most likely lots more

oh and as for that clean ..... smells and look like a farm yard inside

http://lh5.ggpht.com/_QTh2hiPgHn0/S3M10jAvmfI/AAAAAAAADJY/VrSwZTpR9no/s400/IMG_0197.JPG

But all said and done bargain for £450

So I think the plan is simple having already dropped the mk1 by 20mm and new KYB's all round the other year. The engine is out of the mk1 and engine bay gutted and prepped.

The Camry should meet its fate in the next few weeks. While it is out I think the following is on the list of todo's.

Full rebuild of the engine using something like this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/96-00-3-0-Toyota-Sienna-Solara-1MZFE-Rebuild-Engine-Kit_W0QQitemZ370169294090QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors _Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item562fcf2d0a

Might get over-sized pistons as this is an option with the kit.

If so the block will be sent away for a chemical dip to clean it and get it bored out. Will also get the heads skimmed and cleaned just in case as the engine had 156k on it :D

Might also do a bit of basic head work open up the inlets to the head, and polish a little, done it before on by 7age build a few years ago worked well.

By raising the compression a little on these engines, will we get a few more bhp without breaking it ??

Then put back together and dump in to the mk1.

:) That didn't take long.

..... well you did say "you should get a 1mz" :D

was just a lucky ebay find, and I got there before woodsport spotted it too :)

No joke this place must be 10-15 miles from woodsport where we picked it up from (Trimdon Station).

I spotted it when it was first listed, and decided against it, mileage was too high for me even though it was on the doorstep.

Hé, I've got the same model (but then in blue) sitting in my garage.
It has got good suspension, brakes and a exhaust..... I can make you a special price for those :mrgreen::mrgreen:

Nice find and succes with the rebuild !

what i did was to cut the engine bay harnes back into the arches so that i got all the plugs that maybe needed. its very easy to forget,- and to get these plugs i would imagine could be a nightmare . also be careful when undoing the ac lines im certain iv been told ac gas is not good for you so dont go breathing it in.

Good work! those exhaust manifolds look shockingly restrictive, hope they are heading for the bin!

For reference, A/C systems run about 200psi, the gas is harmful to breathe, will give you fridge burns on skin and its illegal to vent it to the atmosphere under kyoto protocol regulations. It should be recovered into a recovery bottle and disposed of properly.....
..or you could just cut the pipe with a hacksaw :)
