You mean an actual car body kit like that? I'm sure i've seen very similar. We'll see what everyone else says. Do you know any more details about that model, maybe it is modelled from an existing kit?

Is it just me or does that model look like it has my carlton bumper conversion on the front? the plageristic bastards! :)

This kit has made an appearance on here before, it is a model kit that can be brought on ebay and is supplied from the far east normally hong kong, I have previousley been led to believe that it was based on a real car that took part in a race series in Japan in the mid 1980's.

Could it possibly be the 4x4 rally mk1 that we have had posted on here some time ago?

Yes Paul, your carlton body kit does look very much like the model.....that was made earlier ;) just joking mate.

Not sure Greg, I think there are several similar models based on that "silly" period of motorsport when you had the likes of the hyper powered mini-metro.....this maybe one of the models if not the one pictured above - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370071490779&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I know what you mean Nik, could well be. The metro with a rear wheel drive, mid-mounted v6. Was it type B or something like that, i'll google it later. I must say i'm not hating the shape of the that mk1 kit though. :)

This is the closest "real" mr2 widebody I can find - the "222D" http://www.groupbrally.com/toyota.shtml

GregHoon
13-11-2009, 22:39
Cheers mike that was the one. Good video's there, nice one nik. Was looking onto having a mad mini built before going for the mk1.5.
They were rally group B cars that we are thinking of. I wonder if that included a mk1 with the body kit that's on the toy car in the original post?

OlberJ
13-11-2009, 23:27
It's actually a Group S rally car the 222D but that's splittin rabbits.

GregHoon
13-11-2009, 23:29
Olber was it you who posted that 4 wheel drive mr2 mk1 in black?

Do you recognise the body kit ont he toy car in the first post?

nikwills
14-11-2009, 18:27
The 222D was loosely based on the mk1 MR2, it was supposed to be for the s class rally to replace the celica that was very successful 1982-6 in the desrt but crap in europe, but they were supposed to be 1.6 engine, the 3 prototypes all had 2.0 litre turbo engines, with twin spark plugs producing a mad 600hp which for 1986 was stunning!! 2 were destroyed in testing the 3rd is still owned by Toyota Europe it has been restored and is in storage somewhere and myth and legend has it that it is available to buy if your wallet is fat enough.
As for the wide body model kit I think that was based on a japan only race series car but may also have been a car of myth and legend, I haven't been able to find any "real" examples though.....

Im quite surprised that no one has made a widebody kit for the AW11, i should think there would be a market! hmm.. i might have to have a play on 3DsMax and try and make up cad model accurate to the the image, it could be used for a custom kit. heres a few more i found, custom kits by a couple of guys in germany.

The front looks great just like my old 944 I had but the rear would look better if the arches were mure like the 944 I RECON

some guy on the US forums has made a widebody himself. looks fairly similar to the black and red ones above. it looks kinda odd though on an MR2. it just doesnt fit the lines of the car to have boxy front and rear arches.

personally i reckon Woodsport arches at maximum width would probably look better.

Paul Woods
15-11-2009, 12:25
A man after my own heart  I dunno i have often looked at the mk1 widebody attempts and just thought they looked wrong.... too boxy, even for the mk1, in fact i think that is possibly it, you need some curves somewhere or it just doesn't work.

I think this is maybe why the boxy TRD kit works on the curvy mk2, same thinking in reverse.

has anyone put Woodsport arches on a mk1 at maximum width yet Paul?

im not sure the wheel bearings will be upto handling the rim offset, its going to need the suspension extending. but someone needs to do it. i plan to do it some time down the line, but i work so slowly that sometimes my efforts go backwards!

my priority at present is figuring out how i can get a tin top roof welded on in place of my t-bar because im fed up of getting wet!! and ive already pulled off the t-bar seals and rebuilt the whole thing from scratch with silicone everywhere. still leaks, i think its the rust behind the screen now instead. maybe a bonded carbon fibre roof is the way forwards, get the CofG down a bit.

what size wheels are on your car? im worried they will completely swamp a set of 15's which is what i plan to run lol.

how is the mould made up? is it possible for the arch lips (e.g. the flat part when viewed from side-on) to be extended 2"? kinda like the lips on the arches on the vectra in this picture, http://www.car-body-kit.co.uk/vectra_dtm_bodykit.jpg

Dear me at that Vectra heap! Did you find that on Barryboys?

Paul Woods
21-11-2009, 16:35
Jim i have 17" rims but the overall rolling diameter of my tyres+rims is only marginally bigger than a 15" rim with fat profile.

i just googled and thats the first picture that appeared that illustrated what i wanted. apart from the rear bumper i dont think it looks too bad for a Vectra!!

i thought they might be 17's. the rolling radius will probably be similar (im looking to run as small as physically possible though), but the wheels will look tiny in amongst the arches. hence my desire to have the extended lips on them.

if it cant be done in the mould then i reckon they can still be added afterwards with some simple fibreglass work. if the arches are laid down on the ground with the outside edge down, are they completely flat to the floor?

Paul Woods
22-11-2009, 09:12
Yes they are pretty much flat on the outside face

whats the price for a set of 4 arches? also, what do you reckon the rough dimensions and weight would be on a Styleauto bumper once its boxed up with a set of arches in the box as well? i really should get it collected from your workshop sometime soon, just trying to work out if its cheaper to have a courier get it or to send a mate up with his van and cover his fuel and some beer money.

Paul Woods
22-11-2009, 13:27
They were £250 a set of four but i have dropped the price to £200 a set now. I can post the arches safely enough but the bumpers are just too big and i can't risk couriers, they have smashed lots of things i have very safely packaged recently.

fit the wheel spats lower lol

OlberJ
16-12-2009, 20:51
Aye, where you place the arches will have a big consequence on how low it looks. Compare it to other lowered cars where the indent on the door/wing is.

Mm-mmm...got any more shots of this'un - pref: front end - pls?? Not that the black car ain't lovely(being black, after all ;) ), but that front bumper looks VERY Toysport-ish(!), and angular, just like I've been after...

{Pls excuse the O/T}

Thanks Dave...but unfortunately, the Eurosport/Woodsprt ones are a little 'rounded' as in your pic... :(

The Gunmetal car's bumper has a distinct OEM-look 'lip' to the lower edge, like Gerald's Twin(which ran/runs a Toysport f.airdam, FYI):

http://www.club4ag.com/pictures/contributions/EFG/geraldmr2a.jpg

...and that is what I've been after for oo...~8 years or so...looks virtually OEM...

:)
