My gear change can be a bit funny sometimes, when changing down into second it can be hard to get in same in first but this is not all the time.
Would these bushes make a difference? the gears never crunch by the way :)

have a look at how worn your current ones are, its hard to say what difference they will make as its not something that happens all the time. Does it change down easier when your matching the revs ?

antnkel
12-06-2009, 22:15
When you try and put in gear if you just ease off and try again it goes in.
It sometimes feels like your hitting a brick wall.
Not sure what you mean by matching the revs.

Second gear was always the one I had probs with, in both turbo and n/a flavours. I'll give this a try, it's the cheapest option.

Can't see it being the gearbox, the one I'm running now is from a rev 5. Well I hope it's not the gearbox.

sounds like worn thingumy rings sychro sincrow fuckit rings that dont match the rpms and when you try the second time it syncronised enough to just slip in oooo er misus.

While we're sort of on this subject, does the short shifter kit make a difference?

antnkel
13-06-2009, 08:08
It's only now and then and I thought when the syncro's were knackered it crunched the gears.

Andre
13-06-2009, 20:39
antnkel - i had a similar problem with my rev4 box until it finally gave up on me :( , it was the syncros in the gear box that went so i bought another turbo box as it was a cheaper option than having my fooked box re-furbed

not sure if yours is on its way out but mine started playing up in reverse and selecting 1st and 3rd and gradually got worse until it felt like i was trying to push against a wall

antnkel
13-06-2009, 21:41
Well in the time I've had it ( just over a year ) , it doesn't seem to of got any worse and like I said it is only every so often but now will keep a close eye on it.

gear oil has a lot to do with it if old or thin or warm that could afect the viscosity (oooh hark at her with the big word) and so make it easyer to engage the gears than when its cold.

antnkel
14-06-2009, 09:03
I'm having it serviced next week so think I might change the oil see if there is a difference.

Andre

go for some redlines mt90 gear box oil its not cheap but its one of the best oils on the market and it will improve your gear change

biteme
14-06-2009, 12:17
Yea, the Supra is very sensitive to gearbox oil temperature. It's a bit agricultural when it's REALLY cold. But after 4-5 mins of driving, it's so much easier.

I'll be using Royal Purple oils in the MR2 (I already use it in the Supra) - and it made a lovely difference to the 'box from when it was on OEM oils.

Cheers mate, can you ask Stuart for the following...

Engine Oil
Royal Purple Racing - Engine Break In Oil
Royal Purple Racing 41 - 10w40

Gearbox Oil
Royal Purple SynchroMax

Brake Fluid
Motul RBF600

And if there's any filters for the 5VZ-FE and the 2JZ-GTE? Cheers :)

biteme
14-06-2009, 14:39
Engine or Gearbox?

antnkel
14-06-2009, 14:45
Both please:cadet:
Had a look at the link and there all out of stock so think it's going to be redline for me as it's being done on friday, which oil for the engine do you thin:thk:

biteme
14-06-2009, 14:56
If you can't get Royal Purple, maybe try some 5w30 - Motul 300V.

When the S/C does go on though, I'd change the oil to something like 5w40 - Silkolene Pro S, Castrol RS, Motul 300V Power

For the capacity, I'm not sure on the 1MZ - but am sure more knowledgeable folk can help.

For the gearbox, if you can't get Royal Purple, get some stock Toyota oil.

antnkel
14-06-2009, 15:13
Do you not think much of the mt90 then and do you know how much I need for gearbox and engine?

biteme
14-06-2009, 15:18
I'm not a huge fan of the MT90 stuff after taking it out of the old E153 I had and putting in the Royal Purple. It was notchy, and after it was smooother. Way smoother.

Do a search for the volumes, I don't know them off my head, but they're on here somewhere.

antnkel
14-06-2009, 15:45
I've found somewhere else for the royal purple so might give that a go and 4 quarts seems enough for the gearbox, engine not found too much on oil quantities but about 4.5 litres I think.

MRV6
14-06-2009, 15:56
I think it's 4.5 ltrs for the 1mz.

Johnny do you know the quantities you want mate? Or should I get a price per litre?

you should start a group buy of oils cause it sounds like good stuff johnny, I would want to stick this in the v6 when it comes over from the USA .

biteme

Right, I've emailed RP USA and RP UK with the prospect of a group buy using the oils I talked about before.

I'll keep you all abreast of any replies :)

Ok chaps and Johnny. He's got no running in oil mate but he says it's prob a mineral oil anyhow and suggests something like gtx to run it in. Up to you mate, The 10/40 race oil is £16.25 per qtr that's 0.946 ltrs and the gearbox oil is £15.86 that's 75/90 .

Johnny he says the soup gearbox holds 1.8 lts and the diff 1.35.

snowtigger
08-09-2009, 17:36
Just been Reading about milleroils they have developed this new nanotechnology oil that acts like little ball bearings, apparently they have tested it in touring car gearboxes and the feed back of the strip down after racing is very good, they don't have to replace half as much of the gearbox after a race.

MRV6
08-09-2009, 19:01
I can go up AAS once a week if anyone wants oil and can drop it owf at Paulas or Stuart might be able to post it onto you.
