just trial fitted my ST205 brakes underneath Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 16" wheels. they are a pretty close fit (about 3mm off the rear of the spokes), but they do fit all the same! without any kind of wheel spacing or spigots!

the wheels themselves are specifically made for a mk3 MR2, so they have a 54.1mm centre bore and ET38 offset. absolutely perfect considering that is exactly the same as the mk1 MR2 :)

they are 16" x 7" wheels, im going to run them on either 195/40/16 tyres (which gives a 15mm smaller rolling radius) or 195/45's (which are 4mm larger) because there is a rubbish choice of 205/40 tyres, and 205/45 are £20/corner more expensive!! plus with a stock 4A-GE the car lacks the power to be dragging big rubber around, 195's give more than enough contact patch for 122bhp!

the wheels were £324 delivered which i think is pretty good value for money for brand new lightweight wheels of undoubted quality (i know multiple people who run the same wheels on race cars, batter them over kerbs every race, and have never damaged a wheel yet. the same cant be said about the likes of Rota, which cost similar money!). here is a link to the same wheels for sale http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230337199282

they weigh in at approximately 5.8kg (crudely measured, so give or take 200g) without tyres, compare that to Volk TE37's that weigh 5.1kg and youre paying an extra £700-1000 per set for 700g per corner!

so im pretty pleased with the results. another wheel to add to the list of 16's that fit over ST205 brakes without problems :) pictures below. theres easily space for another 10mm of brake disc though :D

That's a result there jim, i had to shave the word "celica" off my calipers when i first did this mod, that was with adikt high 17" rims (i think they are the ones on penelope now). I ended up with 1mm between caliper and spokes :)

I'd put the other 3 wheel nuts on there. Hope that helps folks :)

i think il shave "Celica" off anyway, looks kinda odd when theyre on an MR2 lol

as a rule of thumb, i think that any high quality "motor sport" wheels will work fine in 16" fitment. they tend to be inherently stronger, so they reduce the mass around the spoke/rim joining area. plus the spokes tend to be shallower. its the same reason why OZ superleggera and ultraleggeras fit fine. cheaper rims are bulkier inside. i couldnt even get my old 15" Lenso rims over ST185 brakes!! they fouled the spokes AND the outer rim just because they had so much extra material there to give enough strength not to break
