What do you guys make of this engine, in silver and black top form? No biast opinions please, get enough of that when mentioning the 1.5 to the 4A-GE purists! lol

I've always liked the idea of high revving N/A (that's why I bought a MK1). Also been tempted by a 3S-GE with ITB's (which are standard on the 20V) but depends on costs involved. Beams would be nice but what's the chances of getting hold of one?

Expensive way of gaining only a few ponies in my opinion. 3SGE would be better, and I beleive Rogue have a beams lump currently forsale.

For the costs of that, I'd make a screaming V6... 1MZ + headwork, manifolds and cams. Get some revs in it.

The only thing putting me off the V6 is the weight being slightly further back. I know they don't weigh much more than the 4A-GE but I had a look at one at the Autosport show (I think it was) and it looked to be mounted further to the rear. The last thing I want to do is even slightly compromise the handling.

I think ~160-170bhp in a lightweight, solid car will be tough to beat round a track. I know I could pick up a Beams for around the same money as a 20v but the installation will be a lot more. I could just about manage the 20v myself (bar the wiring part), but I'd more than likely be giving PW a shout to install a Beams. All depends on £ per

get onto the pink pages and chat with dr wilkinson. he might actually be on here. he used to have a 20v but is going the v6 route now. everyone i know who has had a 20v has then sold it for a 1.5 or 1.6. cracking engine mind.

rev 3 3SGE. Simple.

Has oddball still got his lump for sale?

But that's just my point, the 20v produces figures in this ballpark with very little mods (158 standard) and is a lot more cost effective to install. I'd imagine it'd be lighter than 3S too :hmm:

Depends how much I could pick up a rev3 3S for plus installation costs. How much roughly is a 3S conversion? Would a Beams be the same?

In terms of mounts, the 3s, beams and 3SGTE are interchangable (nice upgrade path eh?).

You should easily be able to pick up a later 3sge for under £250.

Lad down our road has just blown up his 3sge spent £1900 getting it rebuilt could have fitted a turbo engine for that.

Could have had carpets fitted for that

I'd have to pay for instalation on a 3S. Whereas I could plonk a 20v straight in. It all depends how much a 3S conversion is I suppose

I've been long considering a 20v too...

personally id take a 20v 4A-GE over a 3S-GE every time unless its a BEAMS. and for the price of a BEAMS you could install a 2ZZ-GE that fits 3 of the 4 4A-GE mounts iirc.

the 3S-GE is heavier and offers no major power advantages over the 20v engine, youve also got to consider the heavier transmission and longer gear ratios. plus youve got to weld in new engine mounts and its a lot of fitting and modifying for pretty much no power advantage. it does offer the bonus of making a future 3S-GTE swap quite simple. but unless this is in your plans to start with id stick with a 4A-GE for now. or if you want to stay N/A then a 2ZZ-GE is the way forward, and an unusual swap that very few others have done thus far

And can probably use the 6spd box from the mk3?

6 speed box from an Exige is better :) seem to remember it having better ratios, unless its the same box, but i dont think it is
