Greg is having a 1mz fitted to his mk3....but then you guessed that already from the title!

Other goodies will also include the NA LSD fitment...

Thinking of the quad-exit Cobra exhaust...?

Any thoughts, all.....?

That certainly looks the part Greg and it sounds great with the NA cars. It might be worth contacting the supplier to check that its gas flow is going to be okay, though I'd imagine it would be fine.

At this stage the engine has been removed,as has the rear end of the car... also the fuel pump has been changed for a camry v6 one, which was a straight swap!

Paul...are you ABSOLUTELY sure that 1UZ couldn't accidentally find its way into my engine bay........?lol

Those bays are enormous until you do something daft and put an engine in there! lol
It is a nice feature to be able to take the rear bumper off and walk in.

Paul Woods

Quick update, the bay has now been prepped for the 1mz,back panel cut away and replacement cross bars added, and of course our signature mod of re-using the engine lid catch bracket is there too, then the whole bay resprayed.

i know what you mean lack of rust and open engine bay appeals lots but dont like the look without a wide bodykit

snowtigger
17-03-2009, 23:23
the front end puts me off buying one too bug eyed and girly proper hair dresser car, needs a good bodykit but i would still look like noddy in it looking over the windscreen not through it.

The hardtop totally transforms it, though........! Still needs a kit to look mint, though, I agree.....

I'm working on it.........!

.

;) Certainly has that look doesn't it.

EDIT - That sounded like we're charging this. What i meant was, mission accomplished on how it looks.

Paul Woods
26-03-2009, 06:42
Sadly it is not possible to mount a TRD charger in the engine bay of a mk3 due to the drivers side strut tower.

Having seen and heard two of these systems running on Roadsters, I reckon its going to sound great, probably better than the Magnex actually. If mine is around when you collect yours, you can always compare, but I am confident that you'll be pleased with the result Greg.

Well the exhaust arrived and it is indeed a piece of quality kit... here it is hung in place...

Well mine has run okay with a system originally designed for the 1.8. These do flow considerably better than the stock systems on the Roadster. Certainly don't feel strangled or anything.

That does look very cool indeed. The bay looks different to mine at the back too and I just noticed, the battery is still in the stock location. Bonus!

paul has posted that the 1mz in the mk1 could retain a smaller battery and no cutting of the rear boot wall as the 1mz is mountade different to the 3vz so the mk3 can get all these added advantages, billy bonus time.

like all the mr2s the mk1 is a design classic the mk2 is more of a gt car and the mk3 has the roundness off the mk2 with the small lite nimbleness of the mk1 and none of the rust issues.

still think a mk3 needs a body kit and is too much a 90s hairdresser car but hey ho wot do I know i'm stuck in an 70s-80s time warp the time that good taste forgot.

Hi Paul!
What tranny are you using? are you going with the S54 in nige's car or the stronger E153? The reason i ask is i've gone with the stronger E153 but now i'm strugling to find 4 stud Toyota hubs to fit the bigger sideshafts for my spyder.
(sorry don't mean to hjack the tread)
Any suggetstions?

Paul Woods
12-04-2009, 15:17
We are going with the S54 with LSD and extended 5th.

Do you mean the CV joint spline is too big? just use GT4 front CV joints, mind you the ABS won't work with those.

Super"M"
15-04-2009, 07:42
yes the CV splines are too big:icon_eek:
GT-4 are a very rare speicies here in south africa!
I'll PM you more details
thanks Paul

Nice kit: front lip wouldn't last beyond my driveway, though......!:)

I'm probably gonna go the total opposite, and keep it as mundane and stock looking as poss.....?
its gonna be difficult, as I am already planning to mod the lights, fit a TRD spoiler, and some subtle interior styling.......

I must be strong, and resist......even though the force is strong..!

If I DO fit a kit though, it will need to be a widebody jobbie...[:(

The JDL looks pretty nice, but I have heard that it sometimes takes a little fettling to make for a really good fit.
I think I may well go for near standard looks next time. My front lip takes a bit of a graunching. Its one of those things you have to accept if you have a kitted and lowered Roadster.

This one is now running, i will grab a video on tuesday... just doing some final wiring tweaks
