Okay, have Johnny G's Mk2 Spider now and was planning to V6 it next Spring.

Turns out Irish insurance companies are making it awkward - so, as a back up plan,to not being able to V6 it, I want to look at doing a mk2 NA to mk2 tubby conversion - yes, boring, I know !!!

Anyway, as people are V6ing their MR2's, I would guess the 3s-GTE'3 are going to Mk1 owners ? But in the hope that someone is willing to part with a low mileage 3s-gte, let me know how much they would want for it ?

Or in the very rare case someone wants to go from Tubby back to NA, my Spider is a very low mileage rev4 (only 37k! actually, that's partly kms because it obviously came from Japan - so, maximum of 37k miles but at a guess, could be about 25-30k miles :) )

I'd also need someone who could actually do the swap for me (and paid for this as well).

S, need someone to sell a 3s-gte (pref rev 3 but beggars can't be choosers :( ) and also fit it.

If Paul is there, would you do a boring mk2 NA to tubby conversion ? if so, how much to include fitting and donor / or just fitting ?

TIA
Rob

Idd suggest sending Paul a PM/email rather than make him do the work by finding you.

Hey Rob, you should ideally look for a Rev3-4 as the transplant will be that much easier, with the wiring etc - plus Rev 3 engines are uber cool heh.

Seriously look into the V6, 1MZ though, once it's registered, do you REALLY have to tell them? :)

If there's owt I can do to help, just shout mate

Rob, I will be insuring mine hopefully early next year, I have not looked into who will insure me and I should be able to get classic cover as she is a Mrk I. So all of the above is a bit of a mute point in relation to yourself, sorry.

Do you want to do the conversion over here if you do PM me and I will send you a no. This guy (my best mate) is second in command to my old man, my old man being the service manager for Toyota & Lexus Ireland, in Kileen Rd.

His work is beyond reproach and he is also the contact I was going to use for the engineers report if needed for the insurance companies. Oh and if it helps he will probalby do it for mates rates.

You get all the parts TB supplies the know how, jobs oxo. You could probably get the engine and rear clip from Traynors, But you will pay for it from them.

Hey Johnny - totally agree - the Spider is already something special, so it deserves something special and a tubby is a bit "ordinary" !

Cost is a factor as well, so a 3vz-fe might be the cheapest option ? And I could do basic swap first and then come back and do some mods at some other stage

Hey Ray

Hibernian did come back to me and say they would insure it once I got "a full report from Toyota". So, if your mate can sort that, then I'd be sorted.
Not sure why Mark decided to go for a tubby over the 6 but he is selling on his 3vz and other parts for a very good price - but I'd probably try do the swap myself to keep costs down.

Still have to do the build somehow on the sly - said I wasn't going to spend anymore on the car. Although with the price Mark is selling for and if I sold on the low miles rev4 NA engine for a few bob, it wouldn't cost that much.

Much to think about !!!!

Can you get them to send you the format of the report they require just so there is no going back on there word, we could then get the blanks filled in as they require them. It would stop them giving you a moving target that just adds up to delays.

Sh1t I didn't think Mark was going to sell up. He has turned to the darkside indeed then.

Are you interested in buying the setup off him or are you going for the 1MZ. Give me a nod if you are looking at Marks setup as I might be interested but you have first refusal if he is selling up.

Steel heads should take to boost a bit better than the aluminum heads, not that I would recommend you go down that road at all ;)

I can ask them but the first time I asked, I got a string of emails forwarded to different people - was like they were all confused with my question about swapping a V6 in. Someone just made up "a report from Toyota" - if I ask them for specifics, they a) will not get back to me or b) say no because I asked too many questions !!! :) So, best bet might be to research what an engineers report is and just say I have an engineers report from Toyota or a SIMI garage (they should also accept this).

TBH, I wasn't going to be in a position to even think about any form of V6 or tubby swap til next Spring/Summer - so, if you want to go ahead and buy Mark's set up, fire away.

P.S. I agree - staying NA would be fine for me with the Spider - def no plans to boost it if I went V6 route.

We could set up a company called the "Toenails On Yetis Orthopaedic Testing Agency" and write a report on your behalf if you like? Providing we just use the acronym on the headed notepaper then all will be fine

My 1MZ is in bits being freshened up and could easily be sent to woodsport if you fancyd it? its somewhere in the for sales :)

Could you register the engine change with DVLA first, as im sure you only need engineers report for lower capacity engines. Saying that im sure Paul could write a report being a specialist garage?

Dude! You HAVE to do this now otherwise, what's the point in waiting till SPRING/SUMMER when you'll be wanting to use it, no?

I'd go for it V6 hell-for-leather, deal with the paperwork after the event! Like JG says, if it's registered need you worry too much? Sounds like you have some offers on the paperwork front too.

I have seen a couple of vids of v6 mkIII's and the sound is AMAZING! The v6 sounds great anyway but with the top down WOOHOO
