Chop shop eat yer heart out. does it go into detail as to how they work it.

i see they cut it to shape but what do they put on it to smooth it over or is it just filler.

Very interested in this as it will be useful in something i am planning.

I would imagine the expanding foam is just to create a master buck on the car, some people even use plaster on top of that because its easier to sculpt than car body filler. Then moulds are taken off the car for the wings/doors etc.

These moulds are then used to create fibreglass versions of what you see in the master buck stage, then these fibreglass panels are bonded and blended to the car making it much lighter. The original foam/filler buck is just ripped off the car and thrown away.

Id be amazed if they just kept the expanding foam and filled over it,it would weigh a ton and crack very easily. It would be ok to leave it like this as a concept car that just did the rounds at carshows but nothing more.

Would be a bit of a fire hazard too, no?

We used to use it to fill the ends of aircraft wing flaps then cut it back about 10mm and overfill with araldite. Then when the flap was fitted to its airframe the aluminium and araldite filler could be filed to get the correct clearances.
:woods:well I thought it was interesting

This its what happend to me, because in short of time and a baby in house I took my "foamfilledcar" out on trackdays and all four arches have cracked...but its no problem to fill it over again....but I know about things that are more funny than sanding:boogie:
