Hopefully when I get home this weekend the courier should have delivered mine . I was wondering what is the best location/method to install it in a MK1?

Any pics?

Best place to fit the valve unit is near the fuse box on the n/s of the engine, run the loom down that side of the car through the grommets into the front either over the tunnel or around the pass footwell. Mount the unit (depending on model) where you feel it will be comfortable if you need to change the settings regularly. If not hide it under the dash somewhere out the way.

Use good quality hose to splice into the actuator line and make sure you block off the second line (if it has one) both ends.

Cheers for that

I was wondering whether to hide the display, so question to anyone that has one. Does it get 'tweaked' much or once installed is left alone?

I used to find myself fiddling with the settings a bit - on the motorway, I'd find myself running off actuator but still glancing down and checking the peak boost - then for a country lane sprint, I'd set it to 1bar and for all out pace it was 1.3bar (hybrid).

Another noob question lol

As I have a Forge 12psi actuator fitted does this mean that 12psi will be the minimum boost pressure I can set? I am assuming that the controller works on the same princinple as a bleed valve.

Max will be set at 14-15psi once my chargecooler is fitted.

Yep, correcto sir.

You'll see 12psi off actuator - i.e. with the AVCR set to OFF.

you'll fiddle with it quite a lot - that's what it's for! (ooer)
Mine was fitted on the small tray above the heater controls.

Get a mk2 and put it in the ashtray :)

Just got back from the couriers, looks like a nice bit of kit

They are mate, very nice.

I'm sure you can wire it up to throttle position versus boost. That's the best way IIRC.

Been reading the manual, did any of you use the scramble boost function? As my dash is currently in bits, now would be a good time to fit the switch if it is something that could be useful.

Scramble boost is a gimmic mate, not really worth it.

Thats what I was thinking, just set the normal boost higher instead lol

whats a scrambled egg boost?.

i wonder if they use a N/C configuration for the actual valve where by you loose boost completely if the valve dies or you loose control voltage
..

second thoughts it would have to be an N/O! for air through flow, with power on the coil etc

..

its a temporary (timed) higher boost limit.

The valve used is normally open.

can you configure ramp times for control of the actuator (sounds silly but!) , does it have any analogue configuration? im curious as to how it works and it controls the flow of air so critically with an on/off solenoid.. none of my toys ever stayed in one piece as a kid :-)

pointless asking lol i have too many questions, clever toys, i hope its good fun to use

Not a clue  lol

BTW Adam, I am doing a little bit of work for Redbull F1 at the moment, you would love there machine shop. Its crammed full of NC machines and is possibly the cleanest shop I have ever seen.

ah dont tease me man, everyone else seeems to be getting the good jobs, im still stuck in my humble chocolate machine shop lol . i think alan is cheffing for subaru or summat at the moment i cannot recall what he said but hes been very busy, i think they abducted him!.

you know if you get the chance of any public viewings or owt that would be a dream for me to go and be nosey in an F1 shop , i'd take empty pockets :)

Not sure, TBH the place is a bit upside down at the moment as there are a load of new offices/workshops being fitted out. I have had a quick tour of my building and apart from the machine shop not alot to see. Sadly not been shown the building where the cars are assembled yet.

Had a look at a couple of places to install the display and as suggested fitted it above the heater controls. Just hope it is not too much of a thieving chav magnet.

How about on the back of the sun visor? Flip down to use, flip up to hide, and easy to hide the wires down the trim.

Any good?

Owen.

If there is enough room I guess that could work. I was wondeing if I could make it quick release with a multi pin connector.

anyhow it will be staying as is for now.

What u cranked it up to then m8? Whats the difference like?

Nice stuff going for the Black one, it looks much better than the silver one imo.

I'd not crank up to more than 14-15psi on a CT26

Only got as far as fitting the display unit at the weekend, weather permitting I should get it fitted fully next weekend. I am currently running 12psi and that feels pretty quick to me, I guess after fitting the controller 14psi should suffice for now.

Might try for 15psi once the chargecooler is fitted.

Once the CC is fitted, you'll see probably more boost @ the engine due to less pressure loss across the core.

You'll have to set the AVCR up again though, as the boost will come on harder and stronger.

The black avcr really suits the black interior, i went for a blue one to match my natty blue dash :)

Yeah, im pretty happy with that location, is it possible to change the units to psi or are you stuck with kg/cm2? couldnt see anthing in the manual.

No big deal to convert but psi is what I am used to.

Murf
08-09-2008, 21:12
No joy with psi, i was much more used to psi but you get used to kg/cm pretty quickly.
You'll have to extend the section of wiring that goes to your ecu. The section for the solenoid and map sensor are long enough as stock though.

adamh
14-09-2008, 14:53
not much diffence between 1kg/cm2 and 1bar gents, not worth worrying about. jap stuff is always screwy

adamh
14-09-2008, 15:19
to be specific, 1kg/cm2 = 6.4516KG/inch^2 (6.4516cm^2 in an inch).
x 2.2046 (Lb per kg) = 14.22psi.

1KGcm^2 = 14.22psi. / 0.97bar, @ 1atm.
or 1bar = 1.03 kGcm^2

got to be one of the closest handy units available. still prefer psi although!

must be something betterer to do on a sunday !

theres too many units about lol better to gauge an experiment than calc.

I propose a new unit/gauging system:

how scared does it make you feel? , needing a scaryshitometer to gauge.

Not yet lol. I only get saturday and sunday to work on my car as I am away with work during the week. My other little project is Vettel and Webbers RB5 for next season .

Sorry, just been distracted by a rather nice ferrari 360 spider driving past my window. Heard it start too so must have come from one of my neighbours!

Back on topic, I have got a little more done on the car, got the interior back together and routed the apexi loom into the engine bay. Still got to connect it all up though.

I blame the Grand Prix, if that wasnt on I might have got some work done. Also discovered a knackered fuel hose! so that will have to be replaced before I start the car, then its MOT time.
