Ok johnny's car is a bit like him....... special, and also like johnny it has needs,so they are both special needs :) Seriously though it is pointless building a v6 turbocharged beast if it looks like a bag o shite, and im afraid thats the state that good ole neo left it in.We all know the story of what johnny has been through with this car and the whole project has been a rescue mission to save his pride and joy.Six months ago this car was fit for the breakers yard, now it has an almost completed monster v6 turbo engine and its time to give this car the bodywork to match.

So this thread is dedicated to the mods that are going into making this one of the best mr2's in the country....we hope!

Johnny had two options,a TRD kit, which we have.... or go wide arch. Now the TRD thing although very nice (when done correctly) has been done to death, and this car is different,so it needs a really aggressive looking body to compliment the insanity in the engine bay.

The plan is to graft some Woodsport wide arches into the body, blend them in so the car looks fat and not so archy if you get what i mean.We will be fitting toms sideskirts and blending the arches into them and also a border front end.

Anyway here is the first few pics.... i have refitted a rear bumper and dummy fitted the toms sideskirts, nothing permenant just yet,and trimmed down the first arch to fit the body profile perfectly, thats the beauty of these arches, they will fit any width, any offset of wheel and any body shape....shameless plug over.

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/09/25.jpg

Now before passing judgement be aware these are the results of 1 days work, the plan is to take the sharp angle where the arch meets the body out so its got a smoother blended look and more part of the original wing than an extension to it.

We still havent decided what shape the arch is going to be at the bottoms before and aft.... shitloads to do but hopefully you get the idea.... just squint looking at the pics, you will look like johnny takin a shit if nothing else.

I love these arches and it will look menacing, different and aggressive. Bit like a scouse girl really.

Roll up roll up ...

02-09-2008, 19:38
Hmmm looking good already mate, are you blending the whole arch in or just the arch in with the skirts?

Might have to get a set of arches myself.

Recognise that rear bumper, you'll be getting a solicitors letterlol

Have to be honest I didnt think these arches would look right on the mk2, I am pleased to say I was very wrong . Agree with your thinking about the TRD kit, will be much better to see a more unique design. Dont tell JG but I think this will look rather good once finished.

What colour is is going to be then?

Wow... that is going to look schweet... I really like the look... deffo makes the mk2 look bit more "manly".

I heard a roumour this was going to be painted rust colour so the mk1 boys don't feel so bad lol

Are you whacking some spats on to help bring the rear bumper out a bit?

And what crazy offsets are those wheels!!!!!!

Looking great so far

100% molded body work.. eek. Don't paint this car any fancy pearl or metallic colors, gents. :)

And I expect that you'll be fixing the dreadful sagging on the Toms replicas, yes? People over here in the US seldom do.. :(

conor are you on about the bit of toms skirt at the top of the vent area? we have noticed it bows out like a cheap whores legs, and it will look dreadful if we leave it like that,so yes i will definately be cutting it and forcing it back somehow.

The car is going to be white,a blank canvas if you like....so i can have a mk1 airbrushed up the sides so from a distance it looks like a mk1 :)

Pleased you lot like the arches even if they are a long way from being finished, they will look totally different again once blended in.

Although the wheels have a good offset we have also added a 20mm spacer, this was needed anyway to make the huge supra rear brake conversion we also have planned.

Na mate, got a TRD rear spoiler for the back... but if I don't like that, then i might see about a Rev 5.

If it's too light @ the rear, I might get a GT style as a last resort, though.

MRV6

TRD rear spoiler all the way mate.

Paul Woods
03-09-2008, 19:53
Another fun packed day breathing in fibreglass and bits of mk2....by the end of the week i should be shitting out mk2 dinky toys lol

The day started with bonding the toms skirts and the rear arch permenantly onto the car,i welded a supporting piece onto the rear quarter for the arch to bond to and then applied polyurethane everywhere it touches the body.... the whole arch is then taped up to stop it moving as it sets....

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/09/27.jpg

On the front bottom (oer!) edge of the rear arch this is how we intend to make it blend into the sideskirt with a gradual taper.... the pencil line will be the final arch shape leading into the skirt....

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/09/28.jpg

Next i fitted some good front wings we had (the car had none when it came here, good ole neo,i love that guy) and i also fitted the border front end which needed fettling to line up...

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/09/29.jpg

She is beggining to look like a car again!

Next up i fitted the toms canards to the car,we deliberated for ages wether they would look better with or without the arches but it was decided with...

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/09/30.jpg

I also trimmed the old outer arch off the wing, this isnt needed anymore and the wheel now wants to travel up into that area....so off it comes...

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/09/31.jpg

As above you can see ive already trimmed down another Woodsport universal arch to fit the front wing, this will be totally blended in so it looks like a fat wing rather than an arch on a wing. This really is the beauty of these arches, they can be trimmed right down to give even the most subtle of extensions.

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/09/32.jpg

And finally a front view of the front arch,as modelled by Mr Burns off the Simpsons takin a shit :)

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/09/33.jpg

The front and back bottom parts of the arch are still to be decided in shape.

Looking good Paul, should be ready for paint by the weekend then.:hidesbehi

Johnny is a lucky man as your not one to shy away from a challenge which his car definately was when he got it back. Kismet though as I think he will end up with something far more individual than the Neos TRD he was originally going for. Just a fucker(sure JG can add many more expletives) that he had to go through all the angst to get here.

Anywhoo been drinking...all I meant to say was can't wait to see the finished article.

Ahh, good stuff. I'm having a go at Millentubby's Puma jobs in a mkII. He's given me plenty of shots so should be able to sort something! Maybe even a How-To coming up! I will most certainly be sticking HID's in as well.

biteme
03-09-2008, 23:08
Yeah, I've got HIDs in the BMW and I drove the Surpa on standard lights and I thought it was shite, so I "HID'd" them up - difference was amazing. So the MR2 is getting the same treatment - it'd be rude not too with the low price of the kits now.

I have been busy getting a few little workshop jobs out of the way,so it was time to dive back into his fuckships bodywork again.

I started by removing all excess bonding from the arches....

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/09/98.jpg

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/09/99.jpg

And also started profiling the bottom sections of the arches where they meet the skirts and bumpers.... this needs to be perfectly symetrical both sides.... lets not forget johnny is wide enough to see both sides of the car at the same time :)

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/09/100.jpg

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/09/101.jpg

These sections obviously need a lot more work.

I also removed the last of the bump strips, ground them out and got them ready for the fibral. Also i had to dummy fit front indicators and rear lights so that the flush blending could be carried out..... this involved taping up the lights and inserting a wedge of card so it leaves a perfect gap when the fibral sets.....

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/09/102.jpg

Then i fibral'd up the car, taking care to card the gaps between door and wings...

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/09/103.jpg

Above you can also see we are blending over the repeater lights, this car needs to look super clean and decluttered, the exact opposite of johnnys underpants.

The arches have also been fibral'd....

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/09/104.jpg

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/09/105.jpg

So thats the actual structural work almost finished, from here on in its sanding hell for me and copius amounts of bodyfiller to get the finished arch shape perfect.

You can see how well the smooth look is going to work....

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/09/182.jpg

Also we decided to totally blend in the canard bits that bolted to the front wing,it now looks like a whole new wing instead of having bits glued on to it....

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/09/183.jpg

It will be ....
Absolutely agree. Doesn't need to look like a sketch by a max power reader either though. Looking at the Supra in your sig I'm sure that's not going to be the case.

I used to run a fast mk2 - only 3sgte powered, but aside from engine, suspension and brake mods it looked completely stock - partly because I was want for the cash to spend on stuff that didn't make it go faster at the time, but mostly because I just dont understand the point of making a vehicle stand out more - more police attention, more likely to be stolen or vandalised, and more often than not slower as a result. Doing it again I'd opt for bigger subtly blended arches to accommodate understated wheels on a wider track, and some subtle aero work front and rear, but keeping it looking as close to stock as possible.

I digress. I was a bit pished when I posted my last comment. I stand by it, those two look heinous to me - but as many have said, each to their own.

Cheers, good luck with this one, I'm sure it's going to be awesome, and I for one look forward to seeing the finished article.

The principle reason I'm getting the arches is so that I can use my 10" rear wheels to put the power down that this thing (will hopefully) put out.

With the smoothing, it should be a little more subtle and a little less "Fast and Furious" - which is a bit like my sex life

Check this out ...

The LS7 is a 7.0 L (7,011 cc/427.8 CID) engine, based on the Gen IV architecture. The block is changed, with sleeved pistons and a larger 4.125 in (104.9 mm) bore and longer 4.00 in (101.6 mm) stroke than the LS2. The small-block's 4.4 in (111.8 mm) bore spacing is retained, requiring pressed-in cylinder liners. The crankshaft and main bearing caps are forged (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forged) steel for durability, the connecting rods are forged titanium, and the pistons are hypereutectic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypereutectic_piston), possibly to keep the relatively small mass pistons in check when they thermally expand at operating temperature. The two-valve arrangement is retained, though the titanium intake valves by Del West (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Del_West&action=edit&redlink=1) have grown to 2.20 in (55.9 mm) and sodium-filled exhaust valves are up to 1.61 in (40.9 mm).
Peak output is 505 hp (377 kW) at 6300 rpm and 470 ft·lbf (637 N·m) at 4800 rpm with a 7000 rpm redline (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redline) setting a new record for a production overhead valve pushrod engine.[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)] During GM's reliability testing of this engine in its prototype phase, the LS7 was remarked to have been repeatedly tested to be 8000 rpm capable, although power was not made at that rpm level, due to the constraints of the camshaft's profile and the intake manifold ability to flow required air at that engine speed.
The LS7 is hand-built by the General Motors Performance Build Center (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=General_Motors_Performance_Build_C enter&action=edit&redlink=1) in Wixom, Michigan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wixom,_Michigan). Most of these engines are installed in the Z06, but some are also sold to individuals by GM as a crate engine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crate_engine).
After an extensive engineering process over several years, Holden Special Vehicles fitted the LS7 to a special edition model, the W427 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HSV_W427). The HSV-tuned engine produces 375kW (503hp) and 640Nm, making it the most powerful car ever built in Australia. The W427 was unveiled at the Melbourne International Motor Show (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melbourne_International_Motor_Show) on the 29th February, 2008[8] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_LS_engine#cite_note-7) and went on sale in August 2008.

more filler loading and sanding down....

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/10/24.jpg

as i said before its important everything is flat and flush.... otherwise it ruins the whole "smooth" look we are aiming for,and that take a lot of time and effort.

Drivers side is almost 100% there

and an arse shot...

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/10/27.jpg

Also ive started work on the tapers on the arches, these need forming from scratch.....

http://www.twobrutal.co.uk/forum/images/recovered/2008/10/29.jpg

so making good progress..... its very tiring and dusty dirty work, and very repetitive....i feel a bit like this when i get home after sanding down all day

Whats the chances of this cracking as your going for the smooth look, ive seen it on corsas and cars with not much bhp,but as johnnys is going to be quite powerful would the body twist a bit and cause it to crack?

OlberJ

Suck it and see. But if you do it right, with supports in the correct place u can minimize the movement.

biteme
02-10-2008, 23:07
Yeah, we've pretty much said the same, there's a lot of bracing and Paul's work is quality, so if it flexes, we brace more and fix!

Paul Woods
03-10-2008, 06:51
Indeed,we might see cracking.... this one especially seeing as it has a very powerful engine trying to torque rip the chassis in half lol.

Basically its a case of paint it,drive it and if it cracks fix it,add more support etc.

Well, I was up at Woodsplurt yesterday (Saturday), met up with Jevansio who happened to turn up in his gorgeous 911 Turbo.

As usual, I arrived with coffee's for the troops (3 large latte's in this instance) and there was no Paul. Jay and I had our coffees; chewed the fat and waited. A few minutes later, Paul arrived and attempted a donut in his car. Shame, if he had the 2.5ltr version, he'd have made it!

But anyways, I digress, he eventually gets out, opens up and I see the car.

All I can say is that the pictures DO NOT DO THE CAR JUSTICE. The attention to detail that Paul has with this is really making my car very special.

The human eye takes in so much more detail than a camera shot, you see angles you can't pick up with the lens. The rear long side view really is the money shot for me. It's absolutely tremendous.

Everything he's done is how I asked - and it's working out better than I was hoping.

Summary: Neo is a bastard; Woods is a legend.

Hmm not quite sure what you are trying to say there mate but the photos don't do it justice. Don't know what you would want to take coffee's to Woodshed, it's like taking platform shoes to fantasy island.

Is the winter speedo wear in yet or is it still Borat weather?

I think this car would definately suit a carbon wing of some sort, even though i dont like carbon wings i think this one is crying out for it.

Today was full of more sanding and filling,no pics because its the same old shit.
