clearance is good all around.
at the moment ive got kyb shocks all around and standard springs but the ride hight is the same with the 3sgte in as it was with the 4age

when i get some good light ill get some pics of the clearances these wheels really do fill the arches tho :D

those katana's really do look the business on there mate,i didnt think they would but they do!! 10/10 on the wheel front! also kyb's...i love those, had them fitted to my 1.5,made it handle superbly,i couldnt fault them but some say they are a little harsh...i disagree.

How far are you away from turning the key?

i can imagine pauls joy when he got his origonal u.k set back.. happy as a pig in, nothing better than some good ole fashioned machining ..whats that..?.. yep i'll post them soon.. SH* lost your address.. guess i'll have to hold onto them a bit longer..

amazing adam,i still remember the time i first saw mine come back from the gimps...jaw dropping discs! its the thickness of those babys thats impressive.....podge have you made sure it all fits behind those new wheels? thats the big issue with this set up,caliper face to back of wheel spokes...i had 1mm clearance!

podge
08-05-2005, 08:46
no not yet but if they hit ill space the wheel . the discs do look impresive i think they were made by tonka hehe :D

yep, they are pretty formidable in the flesh.. i dont want to give them back!..

they are 300 x 31.05! x 54.10

i'l measure up all the other bits before i send, for your reference.

there should be no difference between yours and pauls origonal set, if anything .25mm is going to make much difference, which is what i took of of every face..but since its spaced centrally..it will still be same as before.

ive included: four 1.8mm x 14.5mm spacing washers (didnt have 2.0mm)
12mm drill (tap drill size for m14) & 14 x 2mm pitch tap (standard m14). a 14.3mm drill with stub shank (blacksmiths drill) fits hand-drill!)

do you need the drill's? 14.3 and a 12?? otherwise i'll omit them...

you will need...14mm bolts of your choice etc, id go for cap heads (allen bolts) if you can with big locking washers underneath.. as after a few years spanners are horrible to use..allen key gets a better drive. i didnt have any m14's to hand.. everything else upto m20 but not m14!.. m14 is the odd apple

hi adam yep ill take the drill bits two if thats ok :D

Paul Woods

i found the calipers drilled out very easily being ally,i used a drill stand though to get them right....the tap i used on the hub had a 1.5mm pitch...now i think this is a bit big for caliper bolts (they are usually a fine thread, cant remember pitch) but mine worked ok with a bit of threadlock on the bolts just to be safe.

good idea podge.. assuming you have a vice or something! dont fancy that caliper snatching...

shyte...fine threads.. missed that in the brake write up chum! its o.k.. i havent sent anything yet.. hmm.. m14 x 1.5 is fine thread.. any lower than is not standard.. m14 x 2 is standard metric.
whats the verdict here?.. can we lengthen the bolts and include lock nuts on the other side?

or i can order a tap for you at about 4.69! and include it in the parcel with relevant drill
m14 x 1.25

podge
08-05-2005, 21:56
hi adam ill just use the 14 by 1.5 or 2 and thread lock it in place no probs

adamh
09-05-2005, 20:11
ok..m14 x 1.5 i ordered today.. 4.69 from j&l industrial.. if i may say.,. an awesome price for a tap.. not a blue marlin or anything..but good for a fair few holes. i'll include it but i'll take it back !.. as i'm going to need it when i get round to mine(no charge then), now.. i should have your parcel off tommorow lunch time.

podge something ive just remembered that i dont think is in the big brake article....with the st205 in its fixed position and the disc turned down to 300mm the pad fitment onto the disc isnt perfect, what i mean is theres a few mil of pad that sits on the area between the braking area and the inside hat,the no mans land bit? you can do nothing and just let the pad wear onto this area as it wears down,it will only polish it and turn it into more braking area,or you can chamfer the inner edge of the pad so that it misses the inside area totally....just something i thought you might be interested in.

podge

cheers paul ill let it wear if it doent affect anything

posted ok.

to settle any unrest.. here's the differnce between the m12 x 1.25??? standard caliper bolt.. and the m14 x 1.5 upgrades..

we need to find the helix angle of the thread.. this is what mate's with the face of the caliper or what-ever application.. this angle for m12 x 1.25 =

inverse tangent of answer =((pitch)/(Pi x D))

1.25 / (3.141592654 x 12)

1.25 / 37.69911184

inverse tangent of... .033157279 = 1.899 degrees

for m14 x 1.5 :
1.5 / 43.98229715 = .03410463
inv tan .03410463 = 1.953 degrees

so m12 = 1.899 deg
m14 = 1.953 deg
little difference! ..as a percentage...
1.953 / 100 = .019532943
1.899 / .019532943 = 97.22 %
100-answer = 2.7796 % difference.. so.. add that to the torque spec..(works out to less than a pound at 30ftlb, should be home and dry, its a rough calculation, i used it before to calculate helix angle of threads to predict wether ot not something would undo after just hand torque-ing up and just sitting against the locking face at 2000rpm, then coming to a standstill relatively quickly, nah it didnt come undone!... tool was good. hence i found out that calc!. i do get out... honest..

curiousity's!..

hi adam does this mean get 14mm by 1.25mm bolts and do them up tight? :D

podge

forgot to say thanks for doing the discs for me cant wait to put them on the car ill take lots of photos for you too. thanks again adam all the best mate! :D

podge..your have-ing a girrafe aren't ya?. 1.5?..follow right? do them up as normal mate, plus 2.77% torque if you want ot be anal. mind, follow the correct torque setting for the bolts.. should find it online somewhere, bgb etc etc.

on that note.. how did you get on with them wheel fittings.. it just registered int he brain that you had them put on.. what about hub spacers??..

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but been searching for the make, model and size of these wheels/tyres, I LOVE them! Did they clear the 205 brakes ok? Exactly the look I want for my car now.

Will they fit ok with the fensport 35mm lower road springs? Thanks for your time

Peter

Banzai we had those wheels off yesterday to sort a squeal issue out on the brakes (good old copper grease does some has some amzing powers !) and they clear the calipers no problem and actually arent that heavy for 17s ! They are wolfrace I believe !

podge
24-08-2006, 23:09
hi pete yep as sam said thier wolfrace katana blades ive had to space them 10mm but it all depends on the offset i think but very happy with the wheels i think they look good to all the best podge
