I came across this today while browsing for another application. I haven't had time to play with it yet, but it seems like it works in the same manner as other various gadgets that measure acceleration, gforce, HP, 1/4 mile times, etc...

http://dynolicious.com/index.html

I'll play with it later this weekend to see how accurate it is. Anyone else used it yet?

Not yet, but I will ... just getting a copy to put on (one of) my iPhone(s) :)

I had a G-Meter installed which was great fun

I just got back from a quick spin to see what it'll do. I wasn't able to really accelerate too hard since there's plenty of traffic on the road at this time on a Saturday afternoon. So far, the results seem repeatable, which is definitely good. The 0-60 and 60ft times seem pretty close as well. You definitely need to have the iPhone placed firmly somewhere so it doesnt move around while driving/launching/etc. I just took the phone and kind of squished it in the little gap between the seat back and seat bottom on the passenger seat. Seems to work well to hold it tightly in place without scratching the phone :)

I wonder if you can get a Symbian application that'll do the same for the N95? Hmm.

EDIT: Just found one for the Symbian lot (N95 etc) - It's called GTx.
Woods, you can't use it, as it does detect tectonic acceleration .... :P

I couldn't disagree more mate. The iPhone is great, but the N95 beats it hands down in everything except packaging.

I love my n95, it does EVERYTHING I want it to.

For the first satellite lock, it can take a while, open it out fully and leave it in direct path with the sky for about 10 minutes - with a GPS program running.

I think Paff's on his second duff one now. Maybe they're like SKY in that they replace faulty units with other faulty units that they think they've repaired. So if you get a good one you're OK, but if you get stuck in a warranty cycle you might be forgiven for thinking they're all rubbish. On a side note I borrowed Paff's N70 and was amazed at the number of long standing Nokia customers having problems. The old favourite of having to bring a product to market first, doing so with known problems and then hope to hell the software chaps can release patches fast enough that it doesn't kill your reputation.

Bring back valves and relays I say :old:

A lot of the problems with the Nokias are caused by the custom firmwares by Network providers.

Proper Nokia firmwares are significantly quicker and more stable, hence why I always debrand mine.

Does anyone know if there's a similar application for windows mobile phones?

n95 are shite had 6, 1 fell apart two broke the software and firmware one camera whent faulty battery life was 45 mins never picked up the shatelites, so pissed off gave it the other half.

iphone then iphone 3g it rocks only problem is bluetooth connectivety and the camera isn't that great.

quick update 2nd iphone 3g after first one gave up the ghost faulty batch apparently same as nokia rushing a product out two early too market.

like johnny says stick it out side for 10 mins nokia maps is shit i got a seperate bluetooth gps and loaded up tomtom 10 times better than the inbuilt gps and doesn't ware the battery out too much.

I got TomTom working off the n95 internal gps, piece of piss if you know what to do :)

I love my N95 and still stand by it as a great phone.

so johnny,GPS... do i have to stand outside pointing it at the sky like a plank for 10 mins every time i want to use the nav?

Marksman

Yes but for it to work properly you must be wearing a Hawaiian shirt, this is critical.

i suppose an ice pop up the ass is an optional antenna?

paul there is a new version of nokia maps, instead of three amber dots then green for signal, theres about 5 small scanning bars... if you dont have v2 yet install it, but u lose your paid navigation subscription, but it works within 2 mins in the car now!

There is a hidden function to turn the gps off too, cant remember where i saw it. As jonny says, debrand the phone for better upto date firmware. If your fone has the tilting screen when you flip it, or the light turns on when u pick it up of the desk, the accelometer is turned on

Think I'll try this GTx thingy for the N95.

Seems like patchy reliability with the N95. Since I updated the software it has run perfect. Runs smooth. Picks up satellites within a few mins, maps work well, battery lasts 3-4 days. Can't complain, so I've bought the missus one too. :)

Oh well I'm stuck with the N95 for another 18months. got a completly free contract with O2 as I threatened to leave so might try some of the features out.

At least I got a second contract and a new phone to try out as well so I'm not stuck.

I have no doubts the N95 is a good phone but compared to the N70 I was completly disappointed and fed up with it failing all the time.

I debranded the N70, N73, N80, N95 and all have been rock solid with the latest of the nokia firmwares :)

Ive recently ended a 5 year contract with Orange in place for a free contract where I work, I can use my phone whenever and wherever and as long as im not daft it wont cost me a penny.

The phone is an issue tho, I have a Samsung E840 and have had it for a couple of years now i think.

Was torn between the N95 and the iPhone, but when i called O2 Business today, there was basically no comparison 246 + VAT for the N95 and 24 billion + VAT for the iPhone.
