I was wondering if anyone has looked into the maximum overbore on a 3vz. Ive done a quick measurement and came out with ~8.5mm wall thickness...(It measured at about 8.98mm but there is a small step down about 1/4inch down from the top of the deck) the 5vz has a 93.5mm bore which is 6mm bigger than our 87.5 bore. removing 3mm from the walls leaves us at 5.5mm wall thickness (approx. .2165) I was looking around the web trying to find a minimum wall thickness and came across some hotrod forum that says around a .160 wall thickness on the skirt sides of the cyl.

Punching out the block to 93.5mm will leave the wall about aout 5.5mm (.2165) Just tossing some ideas out there and also, does anyone know if the 5vz pistons will work with a 3vz rod. Also if anyone has any specs on the piston height and all that. If we could just use the 5vz pistons that would make things alot easier if someone were to punch out a 3vz.

V.Interested to see the results on this as was talking about it just the other day. Didn't have a definite answer though.

Yea i just need someone to take some measurements on a 5vz piston so we can match it up to a 3vz piston to see if its even possible to use the 5vz pistons. Im going to look into the wall thickness, but if anyone has anymore info on this I love to hear it.

Time to cut a block in half?

Just need someone with a broken block now then.

Well if a block has been punched out it would have less wall thickness. I guess the best way is to sonic test the walls on a good block so we can see what we're starting with a good block. If a block as been punched out .040 thats .040 (~1mm) were loosing on the walls. Im talking to some local engine builders trying to see who has a sonic tester to get some good numbers from the walls. I might check prices on a sonic tester and pick one up or rent one myself.

i may well have a broken block to donate... depending weather the machine shop gets there ass in gear and stops trying to sell me pistons before a rebore!!!
