i'm sure i've read about it somewhere but can't seem to find it anymore.
basically, how much hassle would it be to fit a 1b suspension kit to a 1a, if at all possible? what needs to be done?

It's very easy providing you have the complete set of everything. From memory I think only one bolt hole per rear mounting triangle thing needs to be re-drilled and possibly the ARB mounting points. Other than that it's plug and play. Can anyone else confirm this?

Oh if you need springs SWAT are running a group buy on PI kit as we speak.

All the best,

Owen.

I'm sure it will  Probably cheaper to buy a complete MK1b MOT failure and remover (and label) all the parts yourself than rely on someone selling you the complete kit.

hm might as well fork out for an mk1a set
are there any D2 distributors in the uk you know of?
wanted to go for coilovers. don't think that i'll get a proper ride height
on 15's with -35 or 40 springs.

Mazda MX5 coilovers can be made to fit a Mk1

If you're swapping the entire 1b suspension over, including the subframe/brackets, the front brackets are the same but the topmounts require an additional hole drilling ( 1a topmounts have 3 studs, 1b ones have 4 ). Rear mount brackets need one hole drilling horizontally through the rear crossmember, and one for the rear ARB mounting bolt which also needs a hole drilling from above so you can get a nut onto it.

i wouldnt bother with D2's. for what they cost you can do far better, Koni Yellows and coilover sleeves are a better option

don't you have to weld em sleeves on?
cause i'm sure i suck at welding! :p

most of them you dont, they sit on top of the standard spring platforms. it doesnt matter if they can move as the spring will keep them located downwards. some of them have grub screws as well
