Well firstly let me apologise for this thread being so late but i have alot on my plate at the mo.

Any way i thought i would share my little adventure to Le mans with you all.

So, on the 7th of Jun i travelled up to Pauls place to pick up my newly built 1.5, as you can imagine i was quite excited about the whole thinglol

The 200 mile trip back was driven very carefully under Pauls advice, well maybe 180 of it was but the last 20 miles were probably a little fast:driving:

So with its first 200 miles under its belt and a ferry all booked for the 10th at 0700 in the morning you would think the car should be tucked up in the garage and left until then............nope, not to be.

As soon as i got back down to the bodyshop the car was raised up onto axle stands and with the help of Jasper and BSM all the suspension components were stripped:eek2:

so having picked the car up at 1100 on the 7th,fully intact, by 2100 it was in bits again...great plan eh!

So on the 8th i met with BSM at the bodyshop again. The painted strut towers were dry and the koni kit was all ready to go on........after we had poly bushed the car of courserotflmao

progress was aided by the arrival of Ratty and jiff lemon and by 1400 or so we had all the bushes and the suspension back on the car, ratty even found time to fit my new head unit:thumbsup:

At that point BSM, Jeff and ratty had to leave and so my longue suffering other half and i were left with the slow task of torqueing everything up.

by 2200 we finally arrived back at our place with all the car back together and handling beautifully:driving: :jump:
Beleive it or not the cleaning up of the workshop took forever, the actual torquing up only took about 3 hours with tea breaks!

So on the morning of the 9th i took the car to have all its geometry set up, this was done without any problems and i started looking forward to my triplol

Around 1900 i decided to take the car to the wash and get it nice and clean for its first ever trip as a 1.5.....

Afetr washing the car in the same way i have done for years i sat in it and turned the key.........................bit of a splutter and then nothing...............tried again and same thing happened:confused:

rang the oraclthat is mr woods and he had a diagnossis of wet plugs and ignition components....dried them all off and tried again...bit better but still not good.

At 2030 i decided to give the AA a crack at fixing it but the bloke had no clue, luckily the car seemed to be able to drive around 1 mile before dying so i decided to head for the bodyshop and try to fix it there:freak3:

On the way i noticed that the rev counter kept dying and then resurecting itself, once again i phoned mr woods and he diagnosed that my amp was, in proffesional terms, completley shagged!!:eek2:

So at 2230 on a sunday eve where the hell do you find an amp for a rev 2 turbo:confused:

At this point i would like to thank BSM for putting a post up on the forum to see if there was anyone that had one and could drop it over.

Meanwhile i had a brainwave.... i sold my first 1.5 that i built to Ratty who happened to live only 6 miles away, after a quick phone call i had it sorted:jump:
Would like to thank ratt again for being an absolute life saver, my trip would not have been possible without you letting me strip your 1.5 amp off at 2300 on a sunday eve:thumbsup:

so after a quick swap of my amp on ratty's drive way i was up and running again:driving: :jump: :D

Got back to bed at around 0100 after packing and got up at 0300 to head off for the ferry................not the best start for a 1500 mile holiday:D

The rest of the trip was largely uneventfull as far as problems go...my speddo drive decided to give up but that didn't stop the car at all, only other thing was the fan switch on the rad gave up on the way back and i had to keep moving to keep the engine cool, i was late for the ferry anyway so i have no idea of the speed but it was fairly quick:driving:

so thanks to all those that were involved in making my trip possible...it was an example of true TB spirit...many thanks to you all:thumbsup:

The wheels are made by a company called ace. That last car was a very weird site, v12 engine with a carbon fibre body, looked awesome!!

Nice photos , is it true when the Pug went off they had enough marshals to carry the car back to the track and when the Audi went off they all looked the other way :D

so how is an Elan bigger than a mk1.

congrats by the way, i take it you will be marrying Lyn now

anyway, isnt it time to get a sensible car and spend the money on the Marcos.

3SGTE engine should drop in quite nicely.

Mistertwokw

Lie!!!!! hybrid turbo, 1.1 bar boost, smaller wheels, and a two brutal sticker.

Bound to be quickerlol

Mistertwokw

1.1 bar just means those smaller wheels will lose traction quicker!!

rattymr2
15-07-2008, 20:26
