View Full Version : ST162 Gearbox
I'm after doing the ST162 longer final drive on my MR2, they seem impossible to find. I had found one 'possibly' however, -
How do I identify a ST162 gearbox? Need to let the bloke know how to id the box.
Also are all the gears in this box longer than the S54 mr2 box or is it just the final drive?
cheers H

hasad why not just go for the 5th gear mod? best of both worlds then,rapid acceleration 1-4 then lazy 5th? seems a shame to drop performance 1-4
Just found this info
Transmission 5 speed manual
gear ratios
1: 3.285:1;
2: 2.041:1;
3: 1.322:1;
4: 1.028:1;
5: 0.820:1;
R: 3.153:1.
Final drive 3.944:1

So appears the final drive is the same
How you getting on with the 5th gear Paul?

ST162 gearbox has the starter under the exhaust mani, easiest way to tell.

Whats the best place to get hold of one of these. Will breakers strip a box or do i need to buy the whole thing?
Chris you just after the longer 5th gear? you can get this from toyota for £135. Detailed in Pauls thread.
ouch. Thats pretty expensive. 2nd hand must be loads cheaper
I'm sure you could get a complete gearbox for less than £50. The cars that this gear set is in are listed in the other thread.
