a while back someone mentioned using one of the reverse light as a fog light to replace the ugly bolt on foglights used for imports.
i thought id take this one stage further, rather than use a red bulb that would sit at an angle where it wouldnt be very bright ive used 21 clear red led's mounted on a pcb.

as these are 1.85v ive used 3 sets of 7 in series.

once the back had been cut to expose the clear lense i mounted the board with tiger seal.

as you can see they seem pretty bright, these led's total 63000 mcp (mini candle power i think) and only 420 mA

as they are clear they cannot be seen when the light is off.

just thought id do something different today as im getting sick of filling and sanding :freak3:

Jeez, thats bright, hurting my eyes just seeing the pic! mcd stands for milli candle power and its a measure of the led's intensity at its brightest point :)

If you interspace the red LED's with white LED''s and add a couple of diodes, you could have a dual purpose reverse and fog light.
Do the other side as well to balance it up ;)

Fine work Mart

Jimi - I'm liking that idea too. Hmm, how many lines do you need to play space invaders?

im pretty sure its illegal to have a fog light on the NS,i think its got to be on the OS by law.

Fantastic mod though mart, ive just glued a red lens over the OS reverse light in the past.

I'm afraid mr woods is correct. However, I personally think you deliberatly did the N/S knowing that the TB would come up with ideas to improve an already fab idea.

So, shall be expecting a jimi inspired Dual reverse/fog soon

I'm sure two fogs are ok, but when only one it has to be OS.

From the MOT regs

The inspection of rear fog lamps is confined to the one rear fog lamp which is required to be fitted to the centre or offside of
vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1980.

so the NS on the escort was not compulsory but there anyway therefore not illegal to have 2, but legal to have one correctly fitted...
