Is there enough length for a 3vz to be mounted North-South, using one of the Porsche transaxles? With the space gained on each side, running a set of twins would be alot easier then the stock mounting points. Would also give use of a much stronger transaxle.

Doubt it would be easier in a mk2 as its almost a straight swap as is! On a mk1 however it may fit though I wouldn't imagine it would be straight forward... i'm sure someone will come along with the measurements soon!

More room front to back on a Mk2 so once it's in yes it'd fit, and i dare say there'd be room for turbos.

Porsche box might be quite expensive but if money's no object...

Well, to get it in and running you can always just use a 901 Transaxle. Those can be had for rather cheap.

That the VW jobby or the Renault one?

Its a Porsche, mated to a VW 1.7-2.0 aircooled H4. Comes from the 914. Seeing as it would be a turbo application, the torque wouldn't come in too soon so I doubt the transmission would grenade itself like it would with a 300hp V8.

If length is an issue, we can always use a shortened 930 transaxle.

Measurements would be very much appreciated. The trunk would have to go, Im sure. Who needs that thought right?

my initial thoughts are if you are going to all the trouble of an inline v6 you might as well go inline v8

I thought you where the one that said a north-south V8 would not work in an MK2 because of the width of the car.

edit: I can't read sometimes. <_<

Chrotle, V8 longditudinal in a Mk2 has still to be done without space framing the rear SARD style.

As stated before, does anyone have any measurements of the rear? I know the whole length of the car, but can only guesstimate the actual rear measurements.

what has the width got to do with a north/south arrangement? width affects east/west transverse location and wont fit without chassis mods.

Anyone have a larger version of that picture? I can't really make out any of the numbers.

That's the best resolution i could find it in, what u want to know the length and width of the bay?

676mm longways and 926mm sideways.

I went through this all before i think, there's athread on here.

The main reason I ask, is because I found this (http://www.pelicanparts.com/914/Parts/Body/frame_dims_big.htm) not long back. Comparing the two, we can see what would fit and what wouldn't using diffrences between the MR2 and the 914.

I'm having a bit of trouble reading all these damn lines everwhere. Anyone care to help? :D
