Is it ok to sandblast the heads? Or what is the best way to clean them ready for painting?

Also what size are the allen nuts holding on the intake manifold?

Cheers

I would def not sand blast the cam covers, you will end up with grit in the breather galleries and never be able to get it out. Eventually it will get out into the oil and f&@k your engine.

Hmm ye i thought that might be the problem!

So just by hand is the best way of cleaning them then i guess...

You could take all the plastic and bits off em and get em acid dipped?

A mate has a 45 gallon drum full for cleaning blocks and gearbox casings.

Ye i'll ask around and see if anyone could do that, it was just cause we have a sandblaster here in work for sandblasting crackets on starters and alternators so i thought i could use that.

They don't need to be cleaned brilliantly just enough so that they'd be ok to paint, so wire brush and a few rags might do the job.

Steam cleaner with tfr brought my up pretty shiny. I had soaked them in r5 thinners (xylene based) first.

Way we do it is a parafin bath, power wash and then a wire brush on the drill.

Get's it bob on for the primer.

I think Tony took all the breather gallery things off, then sandblasted them.
