Hi folks,
Have been having a read through the various threads on this and am a little confused on what to go for.
I will shortly be fitting my koni kit and a set of polybushes to my mk1. it also has 16" wheels on it which currently have 195 tyres on them, once the rears wear out they will have some 215's on the back.

My query is what settings should i be looking at when i send my car in for its alignment after fitting the new suspension.
From what i read the trd settings are a little off for road use in the uk and other people have a whole array of settings.

If anyone that has a similar set up or any thoughts on this i would love to hear them.

Ta muchly
Ki

OoOooo tin of worms being opened....

I'd say get it back to standard settings then start from there. Handling is a very personal thing; One mans oversteering nightmare is another mans perfect drive.

i know what your saying mate, should have said in the first post really but i will be happy with the car just being a fairly average setup, i.e not track biased but still fun on the twisties..

Factory n/a alignment??

worked pretty well for my supercharger, I did quite like the mild trd settings though, arse would hang out a degree just going fairly steady.

i suppose the real question is, will the factory settings be ok if the car is sitting lower and has 16" wheels on it?

The 3D alignment people can answer that better for you - just get it laser aligned, it's all read out in real time :)

Mine was about -30mm on 17x8's.

Think that might well be the best way, after all thats what i pay them to do

True but just because they've got the kit doesn't mean they know what they're doing. A 20 year old car is now specialist knowledge. Lyn was told by one company that the camber on MR2's is set by the factory and that it can't be adjusted. The second one agreed that it could but only on the front wheels as that is what the computer said. When we told him we has seven MK1's and knew every nut and bold on them he had the good grace to change his mind. (He did then refuse to take the wheels off to adjust it as it was too much work to do it that way but that's a different story.)

I really think that organising a group laser alignment day sometime this year would be possibly even more beneficial than a dyno day. What say you folks?

Owen.

Typical TB reponse... Maybe! lol

Depends on the location, we could factor it on a meet and have a drive out before and after though?

That might possibly perhaps be a potentially good plan. But first we need to find somewhere fairly central that knows what they're talking about. Anyone care to recommend a place?

I'm still planning on going here soon:
http://www.trackdevelopments.co.uk/index.php

I don't know anything about them but reading up on their webiste they sound good.

Just need to sort out this damn clutch hose

If they do a good job, I can talk to them about a group day, I guess it would cover the SW and South wales people?

toe in at the rear, either parallel or toe in at the front, how much depends on what you want the car to do. for road use go with 1.5 degrees of camber up front and 1 degree at the rear, with as much castor wound on up front as you can get (equal side to side), and at the rear go for factory castor and make sure its equal side to side. if youve got ride height adjustment then stick 5-10mm of rake in the car (rear higher). and most importantly, make sure you fit adjustable anti-roll bar droplinks so that once the car is all setup you can take the preload out of the ARB's at ride height else youll always be chasing the car for handling

We have a 4wheel laser alignment ramp and would happily do something for you guys. We can ensure stock settings or do anything you like, but you get a printout before and after, shows everything including camber, toe, steering axis inclination, thrust angle etc etc. Can get into corner weighting too if you like.

Basic cost of a full laser geo alignment is £175+vat and takes a couple of hours.

Yeah could do a geo event, but at two hours a go we couldnt do many in a day.

Hmmmm, we have a dyno too - maybe a dyno and geo day ??? Could be quite a day.
