View Full Version : Brake upgrade for v6?
Hi all,
Is it advisable to upgrade the front and rear brakes after converting to a v6? If so can anyone recommend which type to get as Im unsure?
Thanks,
Dan
What've you got fella, Mk1 or Mk2?
I'm not sure what the Mk2's do but the Mk1 boys use either 165's, 185's or the stupidly big 205's from the Celica on the fronts and Mk2's on the rear. Paul being different though fitted Porsches's on Lil.
Then there's Keri (on the forum) who manufactures various options too.

Idd like to know more on MK2 setups also, but i want to keep my ABS.
I'm on rev1 brakes with drilled grooved discs, which are more than adequate as they haul the car to a stop quickly - the v6 tends to get you up to speed really quickly then some one pulls out on you.
I have however purchased a rev2+ brake kit, calipers, discs, master cylinder and some braided hoses, which I think should improve the braking.

where did you get the kit from?
When I say kit, I mean I bought calipers, discs etc to upgrade my brakes to rev2+, as I have the full kit waiting to be fitted.

You still not fitted that yet Garbe? When you next back home?
I'm still on standard rev 3 brakes but I've upgraded with braded hoses and dot 5.1 brake fluid. Seem fine so far for the car, the tyres still have flat spots when Paul had a drive of it!
lol lol lol
There's nothing wrong with Rev 3 setups and Carbotech Pads. Braided hoses and good fluid certainly help!
I'm putting 305mm MK3 Supra front discs with the stock Rev2 calliper re-spaced with Carbotec pads and a braided line kit.
Should be more than Plenty ....... well, and a line lock ;)

Whats the thickness of the mk3 supra discs?
Will you be making any more spacers?
cheers H

They're actually thinner than the Rev2 ones which means they don't require calliper mods but are 20mm bigger in diameter. I can't say at this time if they would clear stock wheels though for anyone else thinking they want a set (and they may need a thin spacer behind them which shouldn't require longer studs).
When my 1MZ is finally in (weekend after next) I will return to finishing these off.

keep us updated, ive been looking for a set of RAV4 disks and calipers to trial fit.
Totally agree J. Having used a HighSpec 330mm setup on the Beast, I can definately say that the stock Rev3 setup, with decent pads, is equally as good.

Carbotec did a set of pads for the HS 6 and 4 pot set up on Peter Fosters car for us. That was the second only time I've ever managed to nut the windscreen. :eek2:
