View Full Version : Oil Cooler
does the 3vzfe come with an oil cooler? I ask because on the 5sfe that I took out there is an oil cooler that's sandwiched between the block and oil filter, but on the 3vzfe I dont see one. Am i supposed to have one?
I'm thinking about installing an air cooled oil cooler but dont know if it's necessary or not. Would it be possible to use the coolant cooled oil cooler from the 5sfe engine?
thanks,
sengk

It has a water cooler thing between the block and the filter.
all i have on mine is the silver thing that relocates the filter to the left. is that it?
This type of thing?

thanks for the picture, but the part that I looks like that minus the thick oil cooler part right below the filter. My engine came off of a lexus es300 not a camry. maybe the es300 had an external air oil cooler.
Where is the coolant feed to the cooler coming from and where is it exit the cooler going to?
thanks
mine looks like this one in jaemus's swap:

Ours are the same, its water cooled from the rad system.
That does look like the oil cooler sandwich part is missing in Jaemus' pic.
I cannae think off the top of my head where the oil lines come from and go to on the cooler, Woodsy will be able to download it from his bonce no doubt, no reason you couldn't pipe in an external or front mounted oil cooler.
I might just go to the junk yard to see if I can pick up a cheap one to install.
thanks guys.
Didn't the Windom Paul used for one conversion not have the cooler , i think this type of heat exchanger is used as much to warm the oil from cold as it is to cool it when hot .
