i had a overheating problem that i tracked down to a dodgy rad cap..(try the cheap things first huh) but i had a look at the old one today as i was tiding up the workshop, and dicovered that the metal valve head at the very bottom was missing, dunno how i missed it before.. how this would explain the overflowing from the resivoir, but my problem is, its inside the block somewhere now.... so does anyone with a more intimate knowledge of the cooling channels have any idea where it might end up? and where might be the place to look to get it out? my first thought would be that it would end up down by the water pump / thermostat, but im guessing the answer could be... it could be anywhere...

I would check which hoses it wil have travelled down first. Then follow the path until the channel gets small enough that it will not have travelled further. It will not float so will usually follow the path of least resistance and go with the flow of water....
